Hi everyone. A friend of mine has given me his old Asus desktop PC to have a dabble with. Sadly, the 8.1 OS refuses to come back to life. I can't, refresh or clean install and all of the System Restore points are toast. I was thinking about putting Windows 10 onto the machine after reading that...

100% HD load, after Automatic Repair on Asus X502c laptop

Thanks. How could I find out which version of W8 the machine is using? And as the drive sort of works, could I not just use Macrium Reflect to clone the old drive with? Or would it fail due to the errors? And if I clone the drive, would it cause problems with the licence? Ahem, how hard would...

100% HD load, after Automatic Repair on Asus X502c laptop

Many thanks for the quick reply. If the drive is DOA, is there a way I can install a new hard drive without having to buy a new copy of Windows 8? I think I read somewhere that if the machine has just a Windows 8 sticker on the bottom, the licence key is stored in the UEFI Bios? How could I...

100% HD load, after Automatic Repair on Asus X502c laptop

I'm really at a loss what to do with this laptop. It runs after Automatic Repair, but the HD's spinning at 100% all the time, even though Task Manager tells me nothing's running. iI've been through the running processes, and tried to turn off the not-needed ones, but to no avail. I've had the...

Using Hirens Boot USB drive with Windows 8

Does it matter that my version of Hirens is on a USB flash drive? Are there any other boot disks of this nature that can be used with UEFI/Secureboot etc? All I want to do is check the HD health/chkdsk due to the fact the machine got stuck in an automatic repair loop, before fixing loads of...

It never rains, it pours! Two failed OSes in one day!

Hello everyone, I have just turned on my laptop, after not using it for a few days, and BOTH my operating systems are playing up! I'm getting a "Updates failed, Undoing Changes" error on my Windows 8.1 install, and a "DPC Watchdog violation" BSOD in Windows 10 TP. What's making things worse is...

Easiest way of booting into Safe Mode from DOA laptop?

Thanks for this. How do I boot from the CD, though? Windows 8 doesn't like boot CDs much, right? EDIT: Ignore this post, as I've just read the thread on the program. So it should still boot from this CD with Secure Boot enabled?

Easiest way of booting into Safe Mode from DOA laptop?

Hello everyone, I have a friend who has tasked me with removing the dreaded "Interpol" scareware virus from his Windows 8 laptop. Sadly, this means he can't boot into Windows 8, as the virus just locks him out. How can I boot into Safe Mode, so I can run the "Power Eraser" tool from Norton...

Thanks for the reply. I have tried to get into the recovery option, but when I select F11, the laptop just loops round into the same BSOD error message. Oh and I'm in the UK, BTW : ) I had a bit of a brain-storm today and found an old DVD-ROM drive that I had laying around. I matched that up to...
