Thanks for your reply. I've quoted below the files that could not be repaired and attached the log. How do I go about fixing these problems and is the damage major?

System File Problem - Possibly MSI - CBS log Included

Ok so since then I restored windows to yesterday evening to see how things would be, AVG was a bit wonky so first tried to repair the install (using the regular install file downloaded from the website) - this led to a BSOD citing ''BAD_POOL-HEADER''. I don't know what that is but anyway I...

System File Problem - Possibly MSI - CBS log Included

Hi all, My laptop is running ok but I have noticed that certain programs have been taking a lot longer than usual to install/update (e.g. iTunes) but they always do. Then the last few days AVG Antivirus has been wanting to auto-update the software (not just the virus definitions) but each time...

    Recovery Partition - Windows 8

Thanks for the many responses all. I was just able to create the OEM recovery discs (4 DVD's) using the VAIO care tool, would this be an indication that all is well on the recovery partition or is this a separate image taken from elsewhere?

I have it back now but in 'My Computer' the recovery partition is not visible, only the main C: drive. However, when I open disc management there are two recovery partitions listed (one...

    Possible Hardware Issue

I should also add that on the Windows Update page in the Control Panel it claims that it has never been updated, this simply isn't true. It does not return errors when I ask it to check for updates however it has not found updates other than for Windows Defender in the last week or so at least...

    Possible Hardware Issue

Ok first things first, I'm new to the forum so if a Mod thinks this thread is best placed elsewhere then move away :) I'm running Windows 8 on this Sony Vaio laptop. My problems first started a couple of weeks ago, out of no where the laptop starting taking ages to do simple tasks (opening...
