Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Okay... reinstalling Windows 8 did the trick. The drive now shows up in the BIOS. (I will edit the first posting now if I still can) I also uninstalled the HDD this time before installing Win8 to the SDD. I only wonder now if I can get a real dual boot system by just doing some BCD editing...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Hi again Saltgrass, Your help is much appreciated. Though I've already decided to just do a reinstall. The mSata drive definitely lacks an EFI partition... even the main partition is in MBR and not in GPT format. As you already pointed out... it's not really possible to "fix" this by...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Hey Saltgrass, the notebook didn't come with an mSata drive by default. It was installed by me. So I also didn't setup any Intel stuff. As mentioned in the last posting I'm pretty sure the reason why it doesn't show up in the BIOS is that it lacks the necessary EFI partition. I'm still doing...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

I have a clue now... I created a Windows 8.1 installation DVD... booted from it, peeking in the installation process. And while the SSD was found it had a warning sign below. -> Windows wouldn't be installable to this drive as it had an MBR partition instead of an GPT partition which would be...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Hm... it's set to AHCI, true... why shouldn't it work? I looked in your linked guide.... it says I should even change TO AHCI:

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Hey Theog, it seems like nothing ISRT related is really applicable for this Notebook. In Windows the "Accelerate" tab isn't shown. The drive is also not marked as "accelerated" (I'm referring to this picture...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Thanks for your help so far, my2cents. I'll try to find a solution myself then and post it if I find it... maybe Google will lead some people here. So far for the record: Booting the manufacturer's HD Windows and adding the SSD's Windows Installation with EasyBCD to the boot menu didn't work...

I don't understand the hostility... but... yeah. Ok.

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Hm... I wrote in the very first posting that I uninstalled the SSD before sending it to the factory. Now I installed it again and wanted to boot my old Windows installation from it but can't select it in the BIOS. The "Windows Boot Manager" option shown in my screenshot just won't allow any...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Sorry again, I was just editing my last posting: I removed the SSD before sending it to the factory. (I bought it seperately and I didn't trust the service to not lose it during the repair procedure) The BIOS' Windows Boot Manager option just won't bring up the menu when hitting enter or...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Hum... maybe my fault. Yes it's an mSata SSD. The notebook is a Lenovo Y580. Maybe really related to the notebook after seeing this thread: Y580: new Crucial M4 mSATA SSD not showing in BIOS... - Lenovo Community Just weird that it all worked before... It won't show me the selection seen in...

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

Yes! Also found this thread now: http://www.eightforums.com/installation-setup/17326-msata-does-not-boot.html Same notebook, same SSD, similar problem. It's just odd that it worked before the repair procedure. But... according to the repair report they replaced the mainboard.

Launch Windows from SSD instead of the HD

(edit: solved. For whatever reason the SSD didn't have an EFI partition and Win8 wasn't installed on a GPT partition... So it didn't show up as bootable UEFI device) Hey :), Been fiddling around with it now for one day but didn't get it running. Guess I need some help... :( My notebook had...
