Refresh Windows 8 - Create and Use Custom Recovery Image

OMG, I'm feeling quite incapable right now, but I am stuck on Step 2 of the Tutorial, where all I should need to do is copy/paste. When I open the command-prompt it shows c:\Users\{my username}> and if I copy/paste it comes back with `V. I don't know how to get it to show...

How do I update "Python" version? (8.1, using Secunia)

Thanks for the response, oneeyed. I went through the wiki list, but don't have any of the listed programs. I've been digging all around on the 'net for more info. One place suggested that HP machines may be shipped with it, and I do have a HP machine. I did find a site (python.org) where it...

How do I update "Python" version? (8.1, using Secunia)

A Secunia review shows that I have Python 2.7.6150.103 and I need to upgrade to 2.7.8. Secunia seems to be attempting to update it...but it's been hung with "updating" status for hours. I don't think I need a programming language (which it seems this is), but am scared to just delete it...

Solved Is Windows 8.1 Update installed

Thanks Brink - this was really helpful, as I was also trying to find a way to verify if I'd been updated. (I had) Is there any reason not to just keep using the shortcuts I set up (via your awesome tutorials) on my start screen?

Solved Bottom tool/taskbar now missing when in IE

I'm running 8.1 on an HP desktop, with IE version 11.0.2. Some time in the past week or so, the bar at the bottom of the page when I am in a browser session, launched from the desktop, no longer appears. It's the one that usually shows the Connection, Safe to Eject, my Norton status, Volume...

Should "Recovery Drive" ever be updated?

Thanks for the info. I don't know if I "included a copy of your recovery partition with the Recovery Drive." I followed the steps that were prompted when I first booted up my new computer. I did make a USB flash drive when the option was shown. How would I know if the recovery partition...

Solved How can I find out why I have Python?

I ran a Secunia check to see if any of my applications needed updating, and it said that Python did. Since I'd never heard of it, I've been trying to research it. I know it was not deliberately installed, but don't know how it may have gotten installed (whether part of new HP system, or a...

Should "Recovery Drive" ever be updated?

When I received my desktop with Win8, I went through the Set-Up steps....one of which was to create a Recovery Drive on D: (I also created a Win8 Recovery flash drive at that time) Is this where the "factory settings" live and should be left alone? Or is it like a "backup" that I should be...

Secunia install caused automatic System Restore?

Thanks for the reply, ProudtobeGreek. I was able to successfully run Secunia, so it doesn't seem to have a problem. The freak-out is for not knowing how I got a phantom restore, and concern about my 'missing' restore points. I'm unclear on the "Bump" note. Is this a person, or application...

Secunia install caused automatic System Restore?

This morning I installed the latest version (3.0.0.9015) of Secunia software to my new Win 8.1 desktop. The PSI Setup looked OK. I got a screen at the end that said: PSI has been installed on your computer. Click Finish to Close Setup. While I was reading this message and it was still on...

Abort Shortcut - Create in Windows 8

A HA - that was the ticket! I also learned that when the standard message comes up saying something like "shutting down in nn time" with a button to click CLOSE, I needed to Close that message for my Abort button to work .... but work it does, yea!!

Abort Shortcut - Create in Windows 8

hmm....I tried the download, and two manual setup attempts, but the new "abort" button does nothing. I believe I followed all the steps each time, but I'm just getting shut down when I try to test it. I'm on 8.1, does that make a difference? I'm also shutting down from a shortcut using...

Solved How can I "reinstall" an "uninstalled" app from store?

That was my original assumption (that it would show for everybody), but when I couldn't pin it to START on the standard account I tried to "install" it on the second account, which it declined to do. Initially at least. Today it changed it's mind. Go figure.

Solved Can't Delete Folder, Shouldn't Have Been There Anyway

XweAponX You're totally right. I had used that external drive to copy my music files from Win7 to Win8, and it had the name of my old Win7 PC. Cleaned up now. Thanks!
