    you may just have to reformat and start over. windows 8 can be a real pain. i know how ya feel. try disabling your antivirus and firewall and try again. i know its a long shot, but worth a try.

    "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer" error when you try to install Windows updates try this. if that doesn't do it, you may have to reformat and start over. i don't know of anything else to try.

    download the file your probably going to need the 64 bit verison. save and run. and let the installer do its thing. after its done restart, then check windows store and you should be able to see the windows 8.1 update. yes, it saves itself as a standalone installer.

    i had issues similar to what you all are going through, did a reset, and tried to shutdown then all my updates installed. :) i'll admit the windows 8 update is the most buggy that i have ever seen. and im a veteran of windows been using windows for over 20 years.
