Has anyone found an ISO image for the 8.1 update? I prefer doing clean installs with updates slipstreamed into the install. It cuts down on the time needed to get everything back up.

Yes, they were provided through windows update. 31mb just seems a little lacking for an update that was receiving so much attention. Edit: Hold on a second.... now there's a new update that's nearly 900mb. That's more what I was expecting.

Not if it follows the same path as Win 8. I kind of liked ME, but it was replaced so quickly by XP I never spent much time with it. Why did you leave Vista off the list?

The thread title suggests that Win8 has had a plethora of users who walked away. In reality Win8 has never had a large user base to lose.

I don't use spinners any more; only SSD's. Back when I did I always seemed to have the most problems with Maxtor, and occasionally WD drives. I haven't had a single problem with an SSD and am now on my 3rd drive.

Debra, you will most likely get your answer on the Asus support forum. Google it... You can easily "upgrade" to Win7, but you might have trouble finding drivers. Have no idea what the widescreen thing is you're talking about.

Are you sure you want the RTM version and not the final release? I don't think the RTM is available any longer, if that's what you want.

Go into the windows system 32 folder.... scroll to cmd.exe. Right click on it and select "run as administrator".

Worked great for me too... I'm just happy I was able to get the ISO before Microsoft closes the loophole. The big question now is how long before 8.2? They've already had to trash the 8.1 RT upgrade. My guess is its only a matter of time before MS is forced into another upgrade for 8.1 pro...

Clean install would have been the best way to go. I've never seen an upgrade that didn't have some sort of issue.

Malware and virus authors need to be dealt with the same way Vlad the Impaler took care of people.

This is just one of the reasons why I prefer a clean install over upgrading.
