Critical Event 41. The system has not shut down cleanly...

Thanks usasma! My guess was that somehow removing all power from the system was causing this. So I should disable the fast start up option? I'll give that a try and let you know what happens in the next couple of days.

Critical Event 41. The system has not shut down cleanly...

Thanks for your rapid reply usasma! FYI I do NOT use the physical power button to shut down the system, I use the Windows "shut down" selection. I have done a dskchk.,scf/scannow, and Dell complete Diagnostic and no violations have been found. This is a BRAND NEW PC and I have barely used it...

Critical Event 41. The system has not shut down cleanly...

I have this question before I consider this an actual issue. Because I'm an Amateur Radio Operator I shut down all power to the PC and other accessories at the main power strip. Important to mention that I only turn the main power off AFTER the PC has turned off the blue power light...

Solved How to remove metro UI screen that covers desktop log in

Thanks Brink! I wasn't sure what the correct term was for that screen. I'm new to Windows 8.1 after just buying a new Dell Inspiron 660 core i5-4460 8GB after retiring my trusty 13 year old Windows XP /HP Pavilion 7955 with a P4 1.5 Ghz and 1MB of memory. :roflmao: I will say that after...

Solved How to remove metro UI screen that covers desktop log in

I chose to set my 8.1 to boot directly to desktop at sign in. Thing is when you boot up when I need to log in I first see a metro like skin that has the time on it, I can click on it and it immediately goes away and uncovers the normal log in screen. There must be some way to eliminate this...

Wake from sleep: Acceptable times w/ and w/o HD off

Thanks for the response theveterans. Actually my parents Windows 7 desktop had the selection for the HDD to remain ON during sleep up to 1 hour from the factory, but it can be adjusted to actually turn off if the pc is in sleep mode longer. Interesting. It's not really a huge deal but I...

Wake from sleep: Acceptable times w/ and w/o HD off

Noticed that it takes about 6 seconds for the PC to wake from sleep with the HD off. Is that an acceptable time frame for the OS operating correctly? What is the time to wake from sleep with the HD ON? Thanks for your help. I just got this Win 8.1 system, Dell 660 desktop with core...

Windows 8.1 Sounds. Appears some .wav sounds are missing

Just set up my new Dell 660 desktop and noticed that with Windows Default sounds that the "navigation compete" sound effect and some others don't seem to be working. That one sound I mention is the familiar sound you get when using IE and clicking the mouse to navigate around the web pages but...

Steve Ballmer to buy NBA LA Clippers for 2 BILLION $! LOL

This is just the most Ludicrous :roflmao: deal I have seen from a major company in a loooong time. No way is beats audio worth that kind of money. Tim Cook must be going senile.

Steve Ballmer to buy NBA LA Clippers for 2 BILLION $! LOL

Agreed pparks.... The NBA is in trouble because the fan base views the organization as being greedy, the officiating as possibly being rigged, and the players as a bunch of arrogant, thuggish, and often times criminal prima donnas. And one other small snag is that although Ballmer won the...

Steve Ballmer to buy NBA LA Clippers for 2 BILLION $! LOL

Yes, just when you thought that the man that has nearly killed MS was going to slink back into the shadows and disappear Steve Ballmer is going to do something that compares with the equally stupid introduction of Metro... He is going to buy the LA Clippers NBA team for 2 Billion Dollars...

Windows 8.2. New Changes Are Coming

I didn't know you still can't disable the charms or hot corners if you select boot directly to desktop in 8.1? Is that so? I hope that M$ actually follows through with their claim of listening to their majority customers that want to have a desktop that operates exactly as it did in Windows...

Windows 7 outpacing Windows 8 adoption, shows latest fig.

Thing is although many are claiming that the increasing numbers of tablet users will ease the pain of losing or offending traditional users, the overwhelming majority of loyal Windows users are PC oriented and doing this outrages and angers those loyal customers, which in turn are driving them...

Microsoft warns Windows XP users risk 'zero day forever'

That is a relief. I was really starting to think that MS had lost their minds completely, first putting off productivity and enterprise users with Metro and other craziness in WIndows 8 and then by totally cutting off ANY support for large enterprises which NEED to continue using Windows XP due...

Steve Ballmer to retire within 12 months

I've been hoping that Bill Gates would have been quietly speaking to Steve for some time now about it being time for him to exit. If Mr. Gates is reading this post I'd like to say that I have been a enthusiastic Microsoft user and customer since Windows 3.1 and up to Windows 7 OSs. I have no...

Steve Ballmer to retire within 12 months

So it seems that the dissenters at M$ over a couple of years ago (the faction that lost and was not happy with Windows 8 / Metro) have been RIGHT all along, hopefully these folks that likely quit the company back then might be welcomed back with open arms. YES, MS needs younger folks that have...
