Most have no idea what they are talking about lol. When MS first showed it, they had a side by side presentation of W8 preview, Win7 SP1, and Win Vista SP2 all 64bit and Win8 was on average using 30% less ram idle at the desktop then the other two OSs.

8 is the fastest version of Windows I've ever used, its also the lightest. I have tried it on much older hardware, but everything I've ran it on p4 or better flies.

Download the latest drivers and then rename them drivers. Open a command prompt with admin privileges and go to the directory the drives are in and type "drivers.exe -overwrite" See if that makes a difference. I've found that forcing the drives to overwrite whatever is their before hand...

People need to see past the Metro UI, and focus on the under the hood changes...its faster then win 7 all the way around and to think that Microsoft wouldn't make the Metro UI optional in the final build is just ludacris.

I've seen this behavior when windows is in the middle of an update....give it some time and then try again. I left win8 running overnight after the first install.
