Solved Win 8.1: How do I get rid of ghost/hidden printer?

Only way I found successful in removing the unwanted entry in my print dialogs was to search for the printer name as it appears in the dialogs in the registry and deleting it manually. There was just one relevant occurrence. Solved.

Solved Win 8.1: How do I get rid of ghost/hidden printer?

I tried looking at Device Manager that way but the driver in question didn't show up. Where exactly do I have to erase it in the registry? @topguncp: No, it's not in there as I wrote in my initial post.

How change default search scope of Win 8.1 search charm?

Hi, I like to be able to search for a file quickly and efficiently, preferrably without involving third-party apps. So when I press the Win key, I like that I can type into the search box directly, but it's annoying that the search scope is pre-set to "everywhere", as for some reason that's...

Solved Win 8.1: How do I get rid of ghost/hidden printer?

Hi there, I have an HP network printer, that's not being used anymore, showing up in my print dialogs, but not under Devices and Printers. How can I get rid of it as it annoys me? Thanks Steve

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Hi soulrebelno1 , thanks for your contribution to this thread. I will try to identify the cause of the insomnia in my cause but honestly do not find it obvious using Resource Monitor as you suggest. However, how do you explain the fact that in the case of my computer and others the sleep...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

You may be right and I will continue experimenting, but for me, being able to wake up the machine from sleep via the mouse or a keystroke is highly desired behaviour - would not like to have to miss that, but at least I would have narrowed down the causes. I have just confirmed again, within the...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Guys, we might be up to something regarding the keyboard/mouse drivers. Both my keyboard and mouse are connected through my Eizo screen, which serves as USB hub. My PC has not rebooted for days and wouldn't normally go to sleep by itself, BUT, as I just switched off the display (hence...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Does anybody know how to contact Microsoft support on the issue? I have made my mainboard manufacturer Asrock aware of our issues and the thread and they said that I should contact MS as the common denominator is Win 8.1.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

@sportsman & winona: Would your conclusion also apply to wired Logitech material, e.g., a USB Logitech keyboard, as in my case? In other words, do you think all kind of Logitech material is incompatible with Win 8.1 sleep?

PC crashes and reboots when going from sleep to hibernate

Hello, my Windows 8.1 PC (see specs below) has recently started to have problem when, while in sleep mode, transitioning automatically to hibernation mode (the mode were your work is saved to disk and power completely shut off) according to the pre-set timer in Power Options. The issue is that...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

@Ncguy: I was aware of the sleep states. In power options, you can set the computer to transition from sleep into hibernation state after a certain time. That has been my setup for years. Unforunately that transition does not seem to work reliably anymore with the PC rebooting or just waking up...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

I'm confused, I thought hibernate is what comes after sleep, at least that's the way I like to have it. So in my case sleep is reached, but not hibernation in the second stage.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

I've been experimenting with StandbyHelper and while my system seems to reach sleep state more consistently than before (it depends a lot on the "idle" threshold settings in StandbyHelper), I've observed the following issues at 2 or 3 occasions: After sleeping for a couple of minutes, it does...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

@linw: Your account matches my observation. Sleep functionality is restored for a while after a reboot or logging in again. The fact that sleep is feasible, even if for only a limited time, argues against a hardware/driver issue and for a software/Windows/Microsoft issue as the culprit, in my...

    DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD

The problem is that the freezes after wake up are intermittent, e.g., I haven't had them in over a day now although I haven't installed LogMeIn. However, I suspect you might be right about this program and I will get rid of it. But what is the reason it's causing these troubles on my PC...

    DPC Watchdog Violation BSOD

Hi, Recently, I have had several DPC_Watchdog_Violation Blue Screens after waking my PC up from sleep/hibernation. After clicking the mouse to wake up the computer, the screen would go on, but the keyboard and mouse would not react any further, giving the impression that the computer is frozen...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

John, this all confirms my conjectures of months ago (sadly). I remember you reporting after the Dec updates or so that the insomnia had been cured for at least one of your computers. Does this still hold? If yes, how do your computers differ in terms of hardware?

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

John, I stumbled upon the exactly same thread myself and disabled fast start up as advised. So far, the issue has not reoccurred, but it's not clear to me if I should leave it off and live with slower bootup or if I am to switch it back on. The whole issue must be related to a recent driver...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Guys, I need help. In addition to the insomnia problems, my PC has recently begun to freeze and issue a "dpc watchdog violation" blue screen of death (BSOD) when I wake up the computer from sleep or hibernation. It has happened 3 or 4 times over the last 2 days now. I read on the net it could...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Yes. - Nosleep is a tool that lets you override sleep as triggered by Windows power management, but in doing so, you can configure it in a very detailed way to fit your needs, e.g., if a certain program is running, or a minimum CPU or network activity threshold is crossed, then the PC would not...
