two machines, one running 8.1 pro, the other 8.1... i can easily, very quickly, and reliably connect to the pro machine from the 8.1 machine, but for the life of me i can't do the opposite, i can't connect to the 8.1 machine from the pro machine, and i'm running out of google sought solutions...

found a free, simple program - shadenow... so far it seems to be a winner and does just what i need: dims the screen x % after x amount of time, both defined by the user, and returns to full brightness, or wakes up, the moment you touch the screen... Shadenow - Download

thanks for the suggestion, but it doesn't look to be what i'm after, which is something that will dim the screen x% when the system is idle, and return to full brightness once the screen is touched again, without ever turning off the screen... gonna do some more google searching, there has to be...

thanks for the prompt reply but i'm a bit confused, i thought the reg "fix" was for those who didn't have the "dim display after" option originally, i.e. that it would give them it, assuming a battery driven pc... if that's not the case, what is this "fix" for? thanks again...

something else i just noticed - if i'm playing a dvd in wmc on the 1920x1080 display and i full screen it, my mouse is trapped in the 1920x1080 display, i can no longer move it back and forth to each display. so if i want to use both displays, i can't fullscreen dvd playback. again, what the heck?

so i use dual displays, one is 1920x1080, the other 2560x1440 (which is my primary display), and they are configured as extended. for whatever reason dvds won't play in wmc if i open/launch wmc in my 2560x1440 display, but they play perfectly well if i open/launch wmc i my 1920x1080...
