    OK Brink, I have updated my settings. Still can't access the turn sharing on or off option. Do I have have to reboot the computer?

    Thanks Brink, I found that recommendation as well last night and turned both private and public settings to network discovery "on". Still when I go to the network flyout there's no option to turn sharing on or off.

    Thanks Brink, I've seen this recommendation numerous times tonight - problem is that when I click on the network flyout - turn sharing on or off isn't an available option. I've also tried to use the unidentified network approach but I don't have Win 8 pro.

    Hi, I'm also trying to change my public network to private. "Hit Winkey + R to open Run prompt and type gpedit.msc" When I followthis advice I get an error message saying that gpedit.msc can't be found. I'm running win 8 on a Lenovo Think Pad. Thanks for any help. Jan
