Well, It's works like a charm and shuts down the computer whenever I'm away for a specified time which is what I wanted. I'm reasonably disciplined about saving my work if I know I'm going to be away from the computer for any length of time, so the only significant changes to the task scheduler...

Can anyone direct me to a Windows 8.1 tutorial for using Task Scheduler to configure an Automatic Shutdown after a user defined amount of idle time. I can't seem to find one...or is it not possible...or is there another way to skin this cat.

For some people, Windows 8 does not play well with the new Haswell C states and have reported that disabling C states in the BIOS has fixed their problems. I don't know if this would apply to your situation, but it might be worth a try.

I have the same problem. Just completed my new build. Fresh install. Everything was working great until I ran windows update. It downloaded and installed 41 critical updates. Upon restart, USB ports (mouse and keyboard) die as soon as Windows 8 Pro takes over (IDE initialization starts).

Perfect. Thanks, Shawn. I just wan't sure if it would muck something up or not. Now, if I could just learn how to replace the "Start Menu" toolbar title with a start button Icon, i would be happy. ????

Is there a way to add content to the resulting menu? For instance, some of my (x86) programs do no show up. Do their respective folders need to be "active" or something?
