I have the same issue under win 8 - Atheros AR8151 - not connecting and won't recognise the LAN cable plugged in, same one which works fine under win 7. I have updated the driver but no change, will look for conflicting software. Fortunately I can boot into 7 if I need LAN over wireless.

I'm having the same trouble in Windows 8 but it works lovely under 7 (I'm dual booting) I think there is a bit of software missing for 8 which I may have just found - will update shortly.

Just as an aside - Yes I now realise I ended up putting this post in the wrong forum, hence I got no replies. However in some ways this was a blessing in disguise as I have managed to solve most of these on my own. It just goes to show - perseverance does pay off!
