update: I found that the Audio chip is on the board. after getting a new one and swapping it. still does not work. can anyone help me figure out where the problem is? thanks

hmm i did not think of that (i/o vs. chip)... i will figure it out. I made an image from my current OS. gonna perform a clean install and use the same exact drivers I used last time (which i know work). if that doesn't work I will know for sure that it is a hardware issue. thanks of the help.

I just had the same problem! did not get into the whole flashing thing. Just cleaned the lens with cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol and it worked like a charm. Just in case flashing doesn't work, try cleaning the lens!

i can confirm that the method linked above works with windows 8, However, i get an error when attempting to pick a different theme. so it is stuck on black. will update if i figure out how to fix the theme.
