    Little Girls' Logic

I like a lot of old TV shows, many of which were before my time, such as "I Love Lucy". One of them was the original "Dennis the Menace" sitcom (1959–1963), in which little Dennis (Jay North) often sparred with his female peer Margaret (Jeannie Russell) in the eternal "battle of the sexes" which...

    "Invert Colors"

Is the "Invert Colors" function still available? It used to be in the old "Paint" program which now seems to be gone. I have Microsoft Office Picture Manager, but it doesn't contain the Invert Colors function, and neither does any other part of the current Windows 8 system that I can find.

    Video Editing

Thanks, I'll try it. But what I really need is a program that can edit and save as mp4 so I don't have to convert. There must be one somewhere out there, and I'll find it sooner or later!

    Video Editing

An update ...... I find that Windows Live Movie Maker can do the cropping, but it can only save the result as a "*.wmv" file, which is no good for my purpose since I want to burn it to a DVD so that any DVD player can read it. I'm trying to find ways to convert a file from "wmv" to "mp4", but...

    Video Editing

I need to "crop" an MP4 video file, i.e. pick out one part just a few minutes long from the middle of it and remove the parts before and after. Does anyone know of any good software for that purpose -- either free or inexpensive?

Thanks. If it happens again, I'll try that.

    PC is Suddenly Slowing Down

From the indications given by Task Manager and Resource Monitor, it appears that whenever I have Adobe Acrobat Reader open, the amount of memory it uses will gradually increase even if I'm not adding or modifying any files. Could it be that Adobe is creating more and more backup files all the...

    PC is Suddenly Slowing Down

I did that, and it didn't help. However, I notice that it's happening mainly when I have several Word and/or Adobe Acrobat files open at the same time. Maybe all those files are using up the memory. I hope it's nothing more serious than that.

    PC is Suddenly Slowing Down

Lately my PC has been showing "low on memory" messages, and now it's starting to run very slow. I know those things can be indications of a virus or other such problem, but I just did a full system scan (using Norton) and it didn't find anything wrong. What else might I try?

An apparent bug in the new "Word"

After installing the new "Microsoft Office 365" I'm having a problem with the new version of Word. The "Page Number" and "Line Number" indicators in the "Status Bar" (lower left corner of screen) are not displaying correctly. (This is in "Print Layout" view, which is the mode that I always use.)...

    A Deficiency in Some Browsers

Guess what ...... I found a "Create Shortcut" option in Google Chrome -- but when you use it, it doesn't create an Internet shortcut. Instead, it creates a shortcut to the Chrome program itself, with parameters that send it to the web page that you want. So when you use that shortcut, the page...

    A Deficiency in Some Browsers

OK, now I get it -- I didn't know that you have to set it as the default browser first. But still, that's a lot of trouble you have to take to create a shortcut. What I meant by "target box" is the same box that you're referring to. But in IE, the "Create Shortcut" option is right there in the...

    A Deficiency in Some Browsers

With support for Internet Explorer dwindling (soon you won't be able to view YouTube in IE, for example) I'm looking for another browser to use. I've installed Edge, Chrome and Firefox. But I have a problem with them. In IE, you can right-click on any web page and select "Create Shortcut" and...

    Only the Second Largest

Texas was the largest state in the U.S. for decades, and then became the second largest in 1959, when Alaska became a state. At that time there was a story (NOT true, of course) about a Texan who just couldn't stand the fact that he no longer lived in the largest state, so he moved to Alaska. He...

A Feminist Kid 60 Years Ago

Oh well, it's not a thing that anybody could guess. But many people are surprised to find out that the great tomboy of the 1930's was Shirley Temple. That was one helluva kid. She had a genius-level IQ, and was a tomboy, a movie star, a women's rights crusader, and an ambassador. That's a lot of...

OK, I got it. But gee, Internet Explorer has so many things -- menu bar, command bar, status bar... A lot of those things seem to be missing in Edge and Chrome.
