Solved Windows 8 runs hotter than 7. Why?

Higher cpu utilization starts at boot time and never ends. When I upgraded to Windows 8 from 7 is when I first noticed that my cpu ran hotter, and immediately, before any application was launched. When I investigated this I found the culprit. A service host (netsvcs) process with 16 sub...

Solved Windows 8 runs hotter than 7. Why?

No I haven't. But I'll Google it, and download it if I can. Thanks. UPDATE: Process Explorer would not break it down to the offending process. All I could get was that it was PID 1160 (netsvcs) with about 16 sub processes. Utilization 11%

Solved Windows 8 runs hotter than 7. Why?

Based on what I'm seeing from others here, I would conclude that it must be some other software not native to Windows 8.1. And there are others out there who have this same problem if you Google this. Maybe it's Office 2010? I've turned off my Avast antivirus shields, but that didn't help. I'll...

Solved Windows 8 runs hotter than 7. Why?

I've done considerable research on this and still can't find the exact Windows 8 process that causes this. PROBLEM: There is a service host process that keeps the CPU busy (12%), and consequently causes my computer to run warmer than it does under Windows 7. About 15 degrees Celsius warmer. If I...

Solved Windows 8.1 update won't download. Error code 0x80240031

That is what I ended up doing, pausing the download over cable and resuming over my Verizon 4G at home, and that does work. It worked for my neighbor also.

Solved Windows 8.1 update won't download. Error code 0x80240031

I guess I can understand why they would do this. But when a person has no other alternatives for their home Internet service...it's frustrating. Fortunately this kind or thing doesn't happen very often. Anyway thanks for confirming this.

Solved I have 8.0 but can't download 8.1 update. Need ISO or DVD.

Just FYI, the 8.1 update that I started on my laptop in town picked up where I left off on Verizon 4G. Draw your own conclusions. (if Verizon IT reads this, then my joy could end...hope not) :)

Solved I have 8.0 but can't download 8.1 update. Need ISO or DVD.

Just went into town and it is now downloading. I guess Verizon 4G is my problem. Since it is going so slow here I'm going to pause this and go back home and see if it will pick up on Verizon...

Solved Windows 8.1 update won't download. Error code 0x80240031

I ?think? I just verified that Verizon 4G is my problem. I took my laptop into town for lunch at the local restaurant, where they have free Internet, and it started to download. And I got no errors.. SOLUTION: Verizon (4G) was blocking this update, as my home laptop was not able to download the...

Solved I have 8.0 but can't download 8.1 update. Need ISO or DVD.

I have 10GB monthly with my Verizon 4G. I'm not even close right now. But if I did go over the 10GB, they don't block me...they just charge me more...to the tune of $10/GB. That's a lot I know. But that is because I don't have cable where I live.

Solved I have 8.0 but can't download 8.1 update. Need ISO or DVD.

Thanks, I think you mean KB2871389. It's installed according to my update history. And my Avast AV is disabled. Still no joy...on either of my Win8 machines. Gotta be my ISP (Verizon Wireless 4G).

Solved I have 8.0 but can't download 8.1 update. Need ISO or DVD.

Both of my Windows 8.0 computers (desktop & laptop) have Windows 8 installed. And the Microsoft Store shows that the 8.1 update is available to me on both computers. But they won't download because I believe my ISP is blocking this update. I keep getting the error 0x80240031 when attempting to...

Solved Windows 8.1 update won't download. Error code 0x80240031

I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is. It's my ISP Verizon 4G LTE. They must be blocking it for some reason. I just got the exact same error on my laptop as I got on my desktop computer. Using the same LAN. If anyone else is getting this update error using wireless Verizon 4G LTE, please...

Solved Windows 8.1 update won't download. Error code 0x80240031

My two recommended updates are Bing Desktop and Bing Bar. And I don't use a boot menu. All 3 of my operating systems are on their own SSD removable drive. I only have one active drive plugged in at a time. Just thought of something. I am using the Classic Shell Start Menu by ivosoft on my...

Solved Windows 8.1 update won't download. Error code 0x80240031

I looked up this error code and it says "file is not the right format" What "file is not the right format?" I get the update button, and after I click to download it gives me this error. Anyway I tried multiple times...no joy...same error code. The version of Windows 8.0 Pro that I am running...

Solved Migrating Win7 & Win8 frm a BIOS computer to UEFI computer

Thank you for your thoughts on this. Well, I'm about to take the leap. Wish me luck. UPDATE: Success ! I stuck with MBR. However I had to call Microsoft about a half dozen times to reactivate Win7, Win8, and Office 2010 on both OS's and then to reactivate my Acronis. Microsoft's computer...
