You could always disable the Windows Store service and no Store 'apps' will work.

Hmmm. I hardly ever use 'Store apps' but this morning I used one. I noticed that the taskbar is now exhibiting its old behaviour once more, and is not remaining on the Start Screen or over Store apps, whether I use keyboard or mouse. Roll on Windows 9 or 10 or whatever!

If you take a High Contrast theme and adjust the colours to make it like a regular colour scheme, things like the Start Screen look a lot better! I recommend it!
