Solved Launch Task Manager Minimized from Task Scheduler

Nice step-by-step walk-through. I looked through your txt/xml file to see what you were doing differently. Essentially you launch a command prompt window and then launch task manager by using the "/c start /min" argument. That gets me as close as I got in Windows 7. Thanks! On a side note...

Solved Mail App Lost Account, Won't Let Me Add it Back

Aha! I was looking at the main start menu screen (pressing the windows key). If I right click the icon for mail in the "All Apps" screen, then I do have an uninstall option. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and it's working great now with both accounts. Thanks!

Solved Mail App Lost Account, Won't Let Me Add it Back

So, this is embarrassing...how do you uninstall the Mail? The only way I can find to uninstall any app is from the start menu (right clicking it). However, the uninstall option doesn't show up in start menu for the Mail app.

Solved Broadcom Default Driver Has Issues

If I have the authentic dell driver installed (as specified by Dell per my service tag), it is listed as "DW1520 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card". If I have the broadcom driver installed, it just has a generic description like "Broadcom Wireless Adapter"--something along those lines. I opened...

Solved Broadcom Default Driver Has Issues

Because I couldn't find one for my wireless card; a DW1520. It's probably a broadcom under the hood, but with a page like this, it's not easy to identify which driver might possibly work. I found another post by someone on a dell forum that recommended this. I haven't installed it yet to...

Solved Mail App Lost Account, Won't Let Me Add it Back

I just noticed today that my windows 8 mail app (the standard one from ms) was no longer showing me notifications when email arrived. I went over to the app and noticed that the google syncing had changed and required me to re-authenticate my google account to it. That went fine. Then I noticed...

Solved Broadcom Default Driver Has Issues

Just rolled my default wireless broadcom 5.100.245.20 driver to dell-supplied "DW1520 wireless-n wlan half mini card", version 5.100.235.12. I have periodically had times after waking my computer up from sleep where it wouldn't connect to any wireless networks. I would either have to reboot, or...

Startup Items - Manage in Windows 8

negative, just standard privileges--from what I can tell. I can even double-click the shortcuts that I put in the ProgramData startup folder and they run successfully. I also tried checking the "Run as an administrator" on the RealTemp shortcut. The taskmanager shortcut or .exe don't have the...

Startup Items - Manage in Windows 8

Shortcut to taskmanager and also a cpu temperature program (RealTemp) that also sits in the taskbar. Waited several minutes--they never start. I guess you could say I'm still waiting on this current boot. I've noticed that task scheduler has a delay for them to start, but with the startup...

    "Not responding"

I've noticed the "not responding" more often in Windows 8 as well. Everyone tells me it's supposed to be a way faster OS, but I disagree. I haven't seen anything operate faster, except boot-up, but that's because it cheats (quasi-hibernation shutdown). I'm comparing same hardware on the same...

Startup Items - Manage in Windows 8

Neither method in option #2 works for me. If I add them manually in the registry, they work, but I'd rather not do that long-term, as I always have to go look up the location in the registry. Also not a very option for less-experienced users. I have found that adding a task in the task...

Solved Launch Task Manager Minimized from Task Scheduler

I've added task manager to my scheduled tasks at logon. Everywhere I google, they say to put the /min or -minimized arguments in it to launch it minimized, except neither option works for me. Task Manager launches, but just sits there on my desktop. Is there a new argument for minimized in...

Solved Would like Defender virus definitions to update automatically

Awesome. I never considered adding it as a scheduled task. I just set it up (I didn't have to use the MMPC argument though) and hope it works as well as it looks like it will. Thanks!

Solved Would like Defender virus definitions to update automatically

The default value that you mention would be to let windows download and install all windows updates whenever it felt like it, forcing long restarts at inconvenient times, etc. This would include virus definitions for defender. I just want the virus definitions updated automatically, not...

Solved Would like Defender virus definitions to update automatically

It's driving me nuts. I wish defender/mse would automatically update itself, like in Windows 7. Every day I get the prompt in the lower right (login screen) that I have windows updates available. I've been burned way too many times during a hurried shutdown or reboot to find out that I have 20...

    Stuck in Selective Startup mode

Do you have any programs in the startup list disabled or services disabled? If you do, you will be in "selective startup". Open the task manager and go over to the startup tab. There's a column that says Enabled or Disabled. What does "selective startup" have to do with being able to create a...

    Solved "Save As" Constantly Hanging

I removed one of my network-mapped drives and it has cleared up the issue so far. Will wait to see if it re-surfaces. That fixed the issue. Apparently Windows 8 didn't like that disconnected network drive. I have other disconnected network drives, but that one in particular was a little finicky.

    Solved "Save As" Constantly Hanging

Most every time I use a "Save As" screen, it hangs (not responding) for close to a minute or two before it recovers and lets me continue. Sometimes it hangs when it initially launches, other times when I try to navigate somewhere, like my Desktop. After it recovers, I don't have the problem for...

Auto launch an application at windows 8 32 bit startup

Thanks for tipping me off to the wow6432node folder in the registry. I had been unsuccessful in all other attempts (excluding task scheduler). I noticed there are others with the same problem.
