Solved Numerous event id 10016 errors win 8 pro 64 bit

I was able to make the ownership changes in the registry but when I got to DCOM Config I seem not to have permission to change anything in security, even though I am administrator on this laptop. I am the only user and I'm the administrator. If I get that far and then can't make the changes to...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

The rest of my computer is working really well and I don't want to mess it up, booting from a Linux CD won't do anything to my Windows setup, right? Edited to add - I came up and woke up the computer and saw that it was connected via the Ethernet cable! So it kind of woke up and worked, but in...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

Just an update to this...I plugged the cable into my work laptop and it fired right up and made a connection... I played a lot with my settings and with assigning some things manually instead of being detected automatically, and ended up with an ipconfig that looks like this between my two...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

Yes I believe so, but since it has PCI in the name I thought I should verify that this wouldn't be an issue... I suppose onboard lan could have gotten disabled somehow and I'd need to re-enable. There was a thing with the touchpad on my daughter's old Toshiba that kept getting disabled and...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

Do you mind my asking one last question about this? I ran across a few places online where people said they had to go into the BIOS and disable the onboard LAN to get their PCI adapter to work. Now, I used to have a computer with a bona fide PCI LAN card I plugged into the slot; I know that...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

I had a very smooth clean install, so now I have a nice laptop booting UEFI and running Windows 8.1. The ethernet card didn't come back to life, so I'm assuming at this point I have a hardware failure and will try a USB ethernet adapter just so I have a wired connection available when necessary...

Wired connection problem on a new laptop (Windows 8.1)

Yes, from the ISO I downloaded. I went back and made sure of my settings and redid it, so that is what I have. I am getting my 1TB external drive tomorrow to take an image, then I guess I'll pull the trigger! I followed the tutorial settings that said to choose GPT and FAT32. I'm going to...

Wired connection problem on a new laptop (Windows 8.1)

I am getting dizzy clicking through to all the tutorials embedded within tutorials! I downloaded my ISO image and made a bootable USB with Rufus - didn't know whether to choose NTFS or FAT32 so I chose NTFS and then I found a tutorial 2 levels down that said to choose FAT32. Do I need to do it...

Wired connection problem on a new laptop (Windows 8.1)

You know, I can't remember! Since I've decided I'm going to do a clean 8.1 install if possible, I'm struggling less with this. I do have wifi so I'm not helpless - but it BUGS ME! I appreciate your help very much. I'm working on getting my Win 8.1 bootable USB ready and hope I can do this...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

I am downloading the Win 8.1 ISO now. I have what I believe is a UEFI capable bios (AMI Bios P09ABI) and a Samsung NP550P5C. The computer was originally sold with Windows 7 but came to me with Windows 8 on it from Best Buy, put on by (ick) the Geek Squad refurbishers. Since I got a Win 8...

Wired connection problem on a new laptop (Windows 8.1)

First one gave me error 6800 the function attempted to use a name that is reserved for use by another transaction. Should I run it again straight away or proceed to the other two first?

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

Thanks... I'm thinking to do that. Should I also try what you advised the Windows 8.1 guy on the other thread with the Dism commands? Will I be able to go to UEFI at the same time as I do the clean install?

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

In the log on my router I see this over and over and over and over and over... I don't know what it means... maybe nothing except that the behavior I'm observing is in fact occurring... 06/27/2015 12:44:57 PM kernel eth1 Link UP 10 mbps full duplex 06/27/2015 12:44:57 PM kernel br0...

Just found someone right here on this forum with the same exact ethernet adaptor I have, on Windows 8.1, having the same problem. What is going on????

Wired connection problem on a new laptop (Windows 8.1)

Just wanted to say, I'm having the SAME PROBLEM with the SAME EXACT ethernet card (Realtek PCIe). My wifi is fine, I cannot get a wired connection, my ipconfig numbers look just like yours. I am running Windows 8, and Online Armor firewall and Avast antivirus. I'm going to follow this thread...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

Thanks, I may try the full delete. I'm not on Windows 8.1 because about 18 months ago, half a year after getting this computer, I accepted Windows 8.1 and it was such a complete disaster that I had to do a clean reinstall of Windows 8 from a recovery disk to get the computer to even boot again...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

OK tried all of this; ipconfig for my two devices now looks like this, but still I have an unidentified network. Wireless adapter continues to work great. It says DHCP enabled: NO which looks WRONG to me... Oh, I see, because I chose an IPv4 address. Well. See anything else that looks...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

Safe Mode with Networking: Same exact status with respect to the ethernet card. I was going to try the suggestion from post #15 but if I choose the check box that opens up the default gateway box for entry, it requires me to specify my DNS servers, and I don't know what to put there. I tried...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

I did some of these things and it didn't work; I will try again. I should add: I use Online Armor free firewall and Avast free antivirus, and I run a malware scan a couple of times a week with Emsisoft Antimalware....Malwarebytes also told me I was clean when I ran it yesterday. So I don't...

wifi connected; ethernet card will no longer connect

Have not booted in Safe Mode yet. I can try that this weekend. I just updated my post above to add a suggestion from that other forum that I did not try, I wonder if I should.
