Solved BitLocker To Go - won't unlock, HP Stream 7 - Key is OK

Just thought I'd update my (unanswered) thread! This is now solved - When I first encrypted the card in Windows 10 Pro, I did so via the Command Line, which invoked a dialog box giving me the % of the encryption. I thought this was the only way to enable BitLocker encryption. As it turns...

Solved BitLocker To Go - won't unlock, HP Stream 7 - Key is OK

Hi all, I purchased a 64GB MicroSD card for my HP Stream 7 tablet (running Windows 8.1 Home) as storage is very limited on the device - my intention was/is to store all my OneDrive files (currently around 16GB worth of data) on the SD card so I could have all my files available offline...

Solved Installed Windows Updates - now black screen after login?!

Thanks for the replies. My system restore app has definitely always been on in Windows 8.1, as it's one of the first things I make sure I do when I get a new system/installation. But I was shocked to see that it doesn't create a system restore point before installing updates. Anyway, as a side...

Solved Installed Windows Updates - now black screen after login?!

Hi all, I am hoping somebody can help me with this issue as I have never had problems with my Acer Aspire V5-571 laptop before running Windows 8.1 - it has always ran perfectly (if a little noisy with the fan) Anyway yesterday I saw I had a bunch of Windows Updates to install, probably from...

Update (KB2976978) killed GWX (Get Windows 10 Icon)

Thanks for the reply. I'd have preferred to have updated through GWX, but I am now starting to wonder, what is the procedure here? The GWX icon seems to have now disappeared from anyone's PC I've heard about, suggesting it is by design? However, how will the update be delivered if it's not even...

Update (KB2976978) killed GWX (Get Windows 10 Icon)

I have exactly the same issue and the above fix unfortunately does not solve it. I checked eagerly yesterday morning to see if the installation for 10 had downloaded/delievered - at that stage, the "GWX" icons were there on both my laptop and my tablet (both Windows 8.1) - then a few hours...

Windows Metro/Store apps are corrupted and won't open

Well your quick response is much appreciated, I will be sure to give that command a try. Seems to be some sort of Windows Update related issue as updates weren't installing through Windows Update control panel applet either. I managed to eventually (unsure how) fix this, but it didn't fix the...

Windows Metro/Store apps are corrupted and won't open

That's one thing I've not tried yet, not have I seen it mentioned anywhere. Thanks! I will try it next time I have access to the machine. Although I do recall the Apps diagnostic tool (CAB file) from Microsoft saying something about a corrupted cache and at the end of the troubleshooter, it...

Windows Metro/Store apps are corrupted and won't open

Hi all, hoping somebody can help with this issue. My girlfriends Windows 8.1 laptop has developed a problem which I cannot seem to solve, despite finding it is quite a common Windows 8.1 issue and having Google'd around, none of the solutions seem to work for me to sort this out. The problem...

Why are my "metro" apps always losing login settings?

Thank you very much Cliff, I will have a look at this in a bit. I have heard of DISM but not sure what it does??

Why are my "metro" apps always losing login settings?

I am definitely signed in and connected to my MS Account. It's all hooked up that way ever since I first started Windows 8/8.1 and I have never used a local account. I noticed on the 10 TP the other day that a message did come up in the bottom corner saying I needed to re-enter my Microsoft...

Why are my "metro" apps always losing login settings?

Thanks for the response. I do use CCleaner but not as regularly as I am losing password settings in the apps, and always make a point of it not clearing out my cookies or browsing settings apart from the cache.

Why are my "metro" apps always losing login settings?

I have started to get very frustrated with some of my Windows "metro" apps losing their login settings. This is happening with apps such as Yahoo Mail, Facebook and eBay. They will be fine for a few days but then they lose the login information. Obviously I then never get notifications from...

System gets choppy and slow within 24 hours

Just out of curiosity I notice you have transparent "Aero" effects in Windows 8.1 from your screenshots - is there a utility you are using for this that could be causing issues? Just wondered as not aware of any way to get the transparency in Windows 8.1 (might be wrong, probably am!)

System gets choppy and slow within 24 hours

Or another possible cause that fits the criteria: overheating. What are your temps like? Use a tool like HWMonitor to find out.

System gets choppy and slow within 24 hours

I know the choppyness/lagging you mean. It doesn't feel as responsive as it should. I've had similar "feelings" when my hard drive is on its way out and it causes the system to lag and stutter. As you have an SSD, this is clearly not the problem here. Also strange that it happens as the day goes...

System gets choppy and slow within 24 hours

Is it choppy just graphically or does the whole system seem a lot slower? I.e - do apps take longer to load too? As you're on an SSD I'd expect everything to be near instant, so maybe Windows 8.1 shipped with an updated graphics driver for your graphics card which is causing problems?

System gets choppy and slow within 24 hours

Have you been in to the Start-up tab which is in Task Manager to check what sort of items are starting with Windows? It also shows an impact it has on boot speed. Just wondering if you have a lot of processes starting with the system. Obviously recommend doing a spyware scan too. Let us know...

    Command prompt flashed once

The pause button would do it, but I'd say it's probably going too quickly to action it by the sounds of things, and also I know how quickly these command prompt boxes flash up - they sometimes happen after the next restart after Windows has installed updates. If you are still concerned, rather...

How to avoid pendrives letters changing?

I don't know if this will help but for years I have set my CD/DVD drives to Y: and Z: so that adding drives doesn't muddle it all up. How about setting the letter as Z: and seeing if that helps?
