25 Years: How the Web began

As I remember, the U.S. military turned over it's phone-line based inter-military-base communications grid to the education sector, I.E. colleges and local school service units. I used to log in to my community college bulletin board, and use NebLink (Nebraska) to email my sister working at the...

Activate the built in administrator account using cmd prompt, log in as administrator, search for gwx.exe, rename to gwx.xxx, restart windows, it will take at least a month for gwx to come up again.......

File analysis question... or challenge :)

I downloaded z.wav, renamed it to z.bin, and opened it with hex editor pro app. There is no indication of ANY filename in the file itself, just the standard RIFF and WAV filetype indicators necessary for Windows to properly open it, regardless of filename. Perhaps file history if on, would list...

    Today's Grammar Lesson

I'm more concerned about the use of "ain't", word doesn't exist in proper english. Also, I believe "30-foot Ford" is actually " '34 Ford", perhaps you didn't hear the lyrics clearly......

File History will not recognize my new drive D:

Try using diskpart from an administrator command prompt, set focus on the drive you want the os to see and use the assign command to mount it to whatever drive letter you want. That might make it visible to win8's file history.

Solved How to search multiple files for words

Agent Ransack has a very powerful search function, once you get used to the interface. I use it instead of windows indexing, to eliminate the large index files on my surface pro 1. Takes some time to get used to, but can find anything in a short time. Will create a list of files you can move to...

The quote of the day [2]

As I grow old, I only wish 5 goals in life: Not to hurt anyone... To truly love someone... To BE truly loved by someone... To inspire someone.... To be remembered fondly by someone... 3 out of 5 ain't bad...... Guymalloc

Solved Can We Guess Your Level Of Education?

    Windows Defender. Does it work

I use Windows Defender on my Surface Pro 1 with Win 8.1 update, works well enough for 'safe' browsing. I also use the free version of Malwarebytes, and scan with it once a week or so, it has found trojans that Windows Defender allowed through. Malwarebytes will not interfere with Windows...

Who knows Audio Recording program for windows 8.1 (64bit)

If you have an extra $1k laying around, CoolEdit Pro is the way to go for real studio quality audio record/edit ability. I haven't used on Win8.1, but I still use it on a legacy WinXP desktop. Has 256 track editing, unlimited filtering and audio enhancement capabilities. But be warned, it's only...

    Searching files is VERY slow

You're welcome. Anytime I find a 'free' third party program that does what it says, I'm happy to recommend. I've been surviving in the IT world for 20 years thanks to tireless programmers who weren't satisfied with the programs available, and created something lean, mean, and fast, to do what...

Win live mail 2012 sending email to junk folder-not junk t

Unfortunately, microsoft 'assumes' you will mark emails as not junk as soon as you receive them, thus creating the situation where if you haven't kept up your email settings, you're in for some work. I would think they would have created a 'safe sender' list, similar to backing up your contacts...
