    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Nope, not for me. Brand new computer with Windows 10. Out of the box it will not sleep. I get the same srvnet request as I get on my Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers. Related to my network I assume. Setting a process request override for srvnet allows the Win 10 computer to sleep. Same...

Solved Windows Defender icon now shows in notification tray

Kind of thought this would be a bit more of a big deal as many were verrry unhappy there was no icon. Although I suppose many have moved to Win 10 , which apparently has the icon.

Solved Windows Defender icon now shows in notification tray

Thanks. I searched over there and that thread didn't come up. Guess I am late to the party. Just happenstance that I saw the icon while a scan was running. I had to set it to show and voila. I like it too.

Solved Windows Defender icon now shows in notification tray

I know for a fact that Windows Defender did not have an icon in the notification tray/taskbar in Windows 8/8.1. I'm talking about the bottom right and if you have/had Win 7 using MSE you would have the icon (green house with checkmark and flag) if enabled. When Windows Defender did not have...

SFC can't fix corrupt files and DISM error

Not sure how that would happen. Unless someone can give some advice related to my issues I'm giving up. Computer still works for what I need. My Win 7 machines have no corruption but my 8/8.1 which is the newest does. I use all my computers lightly so this one is frustrating.

SFC can't fix corrupt files and DISM error

Pardon my ignorance but where do I find the .zip file mentioned in the link? I did a few other things to try and fix the new error message but no luck. Also have the SFC issue too obviously. I have new logs and can post them if someone is willing to help. Or I may just upgrade to Win 10 but...

SFC can't fix corrupt files and DISM error

Thank you for that but I fear I may have traded one problem for another. I tried a fix which involved some commands of stopping/starting services and now when running restore health I get: The operation failed. Either the repair source was not found or the component store cannot be repaired...

SFC can't fix corrupt files and DISM error

SFC can't fix corrupt files and DISM error updated w/ logs Trying to uninstall some of the Win 10 and Telemetry updates and now run into this issue. sfc /scannow found corrupt files but could not fix. Can't uninstall KB2976978

I had done an OK job of not installing Windows 10 and Telemetry updates as described in many threads including http://www.eightforums.com/windows-8-news/70351-updates-hide-avoid-telemetry-windows-10-upgrade.html but a few got in. I want to uninstall them as suggested but have run in to an issue...

    Chrome is pretty meh also

Got tired of IE11 crashing on Windows 8.1. So I started using Google Chrome. Already tired of seeing Shockwave crashes and other assorted nonsense. Everyone criticizes Microsoft but it seems Google can't do much better. Maybe Edge will be the salvation.

    Update KB3022345 Renamed KB3068708 ??

Not exactly what you are asking but I had KB3022345 hidden and now it is gone and KB3068708 has shown up. MS reissues/renumbers updates all the time. They have renumbered numerous of these getting ready for Win 10 updates.

Defender Updates. Anyone else seeing multiple failures.

I was seeing similar failures with Defender Updates but it hasn't happened for the last few days. I attribute it to an MS issue.

Windows 8.1 communications apps keep crashing

I am getting this too. Not tech enough to do anything but search for an answer. Will keep following this thread.

Solved KB2962409 appears today but already installed 6 month ago

oops. nevermind. I was not offered KB2962409 again. It was KB3013769 that is back which also has people freaking in multiple threads on MS forums. But thanks to a post here I know why it is reoffered.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

No. Not even signed in to my Google account. Under power requests it specifically shows: EXECUTION: [PROCESS] \Device\HarddiskVolume4\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\ chrome.exe Uploading data. Even when I just have one Chrome tab open, on Yahoo or whatever.

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Seems as if Win 8.1 is extremely sensitive when it comes to sleep. After some tweaks my Win 8.1 laptop has been sleeping reliably. I started using Chrome as my browser and I noticed right away the computer would not sleep. A check of powercfg -requests showed Chrome.exe as the culprit. I set...

Solved KB2962409 appears today but already installed 6 month ago

I had the Defender update issue too. I waited it out and it is resolved on its own. I get a kick out of how people at Microsoft Answers started doing this or that to their systems when this was clearly was an issue on MS's end. Also love the "guru" who asks 20 ridiculous questions about your...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Good work. Two questions. 1. Are you using a MS account? Many have found that no matter what the computer will not sleep unless on a local account. 2. Did you ever set a power request override for "srvnet"? Like you "srvnet" was causing my sleep issue so I did a simple override for...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

Interesting that mbam.exe is interfering. As I mentioned I only saw that process preventing sleep when MBAM was running scans. I'll have to check next time a scan runs to see if that process is listed. But either way I did not have to set an override for it since once the scan is finished my...

    Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep

I also had a request from MBAM which was interfering with sleep. I'm pretty sure it was also mbam.exe. I realized it was because MBAM was running a scan when the computer was trying to sleep. And actually in my case it was running scans often because I had my automated schedule set...
