    Solved kernel_security_check_failure BSOD error

I see. Well, fortunately it's not my machine that I'm working on. I will discuss with the owner and see if they wish to proceed forward with the clean install with genuine activation.

PC settings - Fix and Restore in Windows 8.1

Tried that as well. I think the problem is that some Windows components were left out of my original install. I used WinReducer for the install with a Win 8 Iso so that I could set up an unattended install (due to the broken screen). I was able to see just enough on the screen to install...

PC settings - Fix and Restore in Windows 8.1

Anything else I can do to fix PC Settings besides a refresh? Can I copy some missing files from another machine with Win 8.1 or something? Thanks.

PC settings - Fix and Restore in Windows 8.1

Unfortunately, since my PC Settings appears broken, that's not an option. I'll keep that in mind for future reference though. Any way to force Windows Setup or repair to allow me to use an external monitor?

PC settings - Fix and Restore in Windows 8.1

Thank you for that. It looks like I'm still missing something Is there a way that I can get my machine to allow me to use an external monitor while I am in Windows repair so that I can perform a refresh? It's strange since I can run a live cd like GParted and it shows up on the external, but...

PC settings - Fix and Restore in Windows 8.1

Tried that yesterday with no luck. I would run a system refresh, but the problem is, the laptop screen is broken, and won't show up on an external monitor if I boot into Windows Repair.

wifi disabled upon restart or shutdown

Yup, tried that too, and no luck. Any idea why the wifi is turning off upon restart? Could this be a motherboard problem, since I have already tried to replace the wifi card with another one?

wifi disabled upon restart or shutdown

They are set to not allow sleep or power. That doesn't seem to be the problem. What perplexes me is that the wifi adapter disappears from the Device Manager after restart. For some reason, the motherboard doesn't even recognize that it's there. But after I shutdown and start up again, the device...

wifi disabled upon restart or shutdown

They had a wireless button driver that I installed. Unfortunately that did not solve the problem. The wireless card is turning off after every restart or shutdown. Shouldn't the default behavior be that upon a power up that wireless card should be on automatically? There are no BIOS options...

wifi disabled upon restart or shutdown

Every time I restart or shutdown my laptop, running Win 8.1 pro, the wifi is disabled (missing from Device Manager) and the light on the keyboard that indicates wifi on/off turns orange = off. When I boot from a shutdown I am able to press the button to turn it on light shows white. However...

wifi/bluetooth device not detected after reboot

Since upgrading my HP DV6T7000-CTO from Windows 7 to Win 8 and now 8.1I have had an intermittent issue where the my wifi/bluetooth adapter is detected, until a restart, and then afterwards, is no longer detected. I have a Intel centrino wireless N 2230 which is both wifi and bluetooth. I cannot...

Folder View - Apply to Folders in Windows 8

Unfortunately not, thumbnail previews are in fact enabled. If you look at the screenshot you will see that Vids 1 which existed before the original Apply to All folders was done, shows no thumbnail. But, Vids 2 which was created after that time, does show a thumbnail preview of the folder...

Folder View - Apply to Folders in Windows 8

Folder Thumbnails lost after applying this After doing this, many of my folders that contain videos have lost their thumbnails, and when you highlight over a folder, it says that the folder is empty, when in fact it is not. I should mention that the thumbnail loss and empty folder messages only...

Solved how to stop mouse from waking up my computer

Nope, tried that. Did all the device manager stuff, adjusting the power management. It is an issue that Logitech has and has documented. I just wanted to post to let others know, since Logitech is a popular choice for wireless devices.

Solved how to stop mouse from waking up my computer

For anyone that has a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse combo, according to Logitech, the only way to prevent the mouse from waking up your computer is to disable the wake in power management in both the mouse and the keyboard. That is unfortunate because I for one want to be able to wake up...
