I have never run the UAC since the first time I saw it however many operating systems ago. Never had a corrupt file due to that. The very first thing I do when installing an operating system is turn off the pain in the A-- UAC.

I have been using Classic Shell since I installed Win 8 with no issues. Never with Windows update.

Too bad there isn't one for Win 8. Maybe the issue is due to being 64 bit. So they really didn't test IE with Win 8? Amazing but why am I surprised.

What does that do? I assume it only affects IE as my other browsers work perfect. I only use IE on some school and gov. sites that require IE. Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion, but nothing was solved. Just typing this reply was a chore. Everything is in slow motion. I typed this whole line and sat and waited for it to catch up. Easy 15 to 20 seconds behind my typing. No way I can use this.

I can't get firefox (any version) to work with Win 8. It loads the page then freezes and never completely loads. I now use Waterfox which is fast and similar if not the same as Firefox.

There is a setting in Shell that you can check to bypass the metro screen entirely.

Or you can install the Windows Shell and have the best of both worlds. I personally have my computer boot to the desktop and if I want the metro screen I can just go to the lower left corner and load that. Works great so far.
