    GWX.EXE - api-ms-win-core-heap-l2-1-0.dll missing

Hi, I set up a dual boot Windows 8 & 10 system by initially setting up a dual boot with two Win 8.1 systems and then upgrading one to Windows 10. Now I find that the Win 8.1 system fails at start-up with a message from GWX.EXE:- "api-ms-win-core-heap-l2-1-0.dll missing" And that's as far as it...

OneDrive - Add or Remove from This PC in Windows 8.1

I had tried everything in this thread, plus a number of suggestions from other areas, with no success, and then I came across this:- How to disable and uninstall SkyDrive from Windows 8.1 - How-To - PC Advisor Worked liked a charm.

    Strange change in search behaviour

Due to SSD and recovery problems on my 8.1 Pro X64 system I was forced to go back to basics and reinstall Windows 8 and then perform the upgrade to 8.1, all of which went quite smoothly. However I have now found a somewhat puzzling difference in how a search with "kind:=video" responds; on my...

How to remove ads from all Windows 8 apps

I turned Bing off very soon after installing Windows 8. I'm not sure how that setting would affect Apps like Hangman Pro etc etc. I've tried just about everything with the stuff in WindowsApps. I've taken ownership, turned off "read only", tried running Notepad and Wordpad as admin but cannot...

How to remove ads from all Windows 8 apps

It seems that in 8.1 there is now no way to gain owner or admin access to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps, so it is now impossible edit, rename, or delete any of the content of that folder. Anyone know of a another way to kill ads?

    Customise File Explorer Dropdown Menu?

Is it possible to rearrange the content of the File Explorer Dropdown Menu? I would like to move rename farther away from delete as I sometimes click too quickly and inadvertently delete files.

Solved Search results window pops up while I'm still typing

On my Windows 8.1 Pro X64 as soon as I start to type in the search box a results window pops up and I either have to type in the box in that window or move the cursor back to the original window. Most annoying!

Solved Sporadic BSOD 0xC000021A at shutdown

Using Driver Verifier I discovered that there was a Trusteer Rapport Driver, RapportHades64.SYS, which was from an older version of Windows. I uninstalled Rapport, ensured all traces were removed and installed from the latest setup file. This removed the out of date driver but the BSOD continued...

Solved Sporadic BSOD 0xC000021A at shutdown

I just installed an Intel SSD and added more memory to my PC so I decided to do a complete reinstall of Windows 8.1 Pro X64. Guess what? The 0xC000021A is back! :( Once again the DISMs and SCANNOW come up clean. I have a sneaking suspicion the problem may be related to eternal HDDs (USB)...

Elvis, I have just moved the goalposts. Have done a complete revamp of my system. Ran exhaustive disk and memory checks. Formatted all disks. Did fresh install of Windows 8.1 Pro X64 and reinstalled some applications, including aVast, Malwarebytes, and Acronis True Image which are three...

Why are there so many problems with IE and MSN Game Zone?

The only reason I tolerate Internet Explorer is that I like to play the occasional game of Hearts, Spades, or Backgammon on the MSN Game Zone. However it is becoming increasingly more difficult to have those games function properly. We have to jump through a whole series of hoops to get the...

    Getting "timeouts" on one site.

I am still getting "logged out" or "signed off" from this one site. This problem started in mid July and my attempts to get around it have included a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro X64 and the installation of a new modem/router, a TP-Link W8960N to replace my D-Link DSL-G604T. Both my ISP...
