I had the same problem with windows 8 a while back and googled it and found some sites that said to delete everything in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution, do not delete the SoftwareDistribtion folder, only the folders and files in it, these are for the windows updates when installing or something...

Caperjack, but I am right in saying there is a difference in Windows 8 and Windows 8 Pro? And you are saying the 8.1 will work on either as long as you have the right 32 or 64 bit?
