"Text Only" print driver no longer working?

So I suppose I'm lucky to be getting any output at all (see the filler.prn.txt file attached to my original post). Unfortunately, iTunes is one of the many programs that doesn't have a "save as text" option - which is the shortcoming that caused me to start using the "Text Only" print driver in...

"Text Only" print driver no longer working?

Actually, right now I'm most interested in getting this working with iTunes, so if you have that available, I'd also appreciate your testing using that as well. (I frequently make .txt file versions of playlists and app lists this way and transform them into spreadsheets, to which I add custom...

"Text Only" print driver no longer working?

Yes; this is exactly what I'm talking about. "Printed" using what program? That is to say, you generated that output file by clicking Print on the File menu of Program X and selecting "Generic / Text Only" as the "printer" to print to, but which Program X did you use? From your output file, I...

"Text Only" print driver no longer working?

I'm not trying to print anything; the Generic print driver is intended to convert a program's output (in my example above, I'm using Firefox, but it's intended to be used with any program) into a minimally formatted text file. Again, I'm not using any printer; the idea is to be able to use the...

"Text Only" print driver no longer working?

For many years, I've used the Generic / Text Only virtual printer driver to convert Web pages and other files to plain text with minimal formatting, but the last time I used it, the resulting file was peppered with unnecessary spaces, making it close to indecipherable when viewed in a text...

Windows 8 refuses to stay awake

It's happening again. This time, I suspect that a Windows Update may have something to do with it, because we have several identical computers that were bought at the same time and it started happening to all of them more or less simultaneously. I apologize for not noticing your post until now...

Windows 8 refuses to stay awake

It happened again. When I got to the computer today, the screen was off. I'm not sure if this is significant, but yesterday, I had some time to kill and tried fooling around with some TIFKAM games - and IIRC, the day I downloaded them was the day before I started this thread. Coincidence?

Start Screen Shortcut - Create in Windows 8

It's too bad that no one's found the way to do this yet that doesn't involve faking a keystroke (and there has to be one), because I think the Start Screen and its live tiles would make a perfect screen saver.

Windows 8 refuses to stay awake

So far, so good; I left it on last night and it was still on this morning - but that might just mean that whatever's making it turn off didn't happen last night.

Windows 8 refuses to stay awake

I'm not sure how those settings could be causing the problem, but at this point, I'm willing to try anything, so I'll make those changes later today (once I stop using the machine in question) and see if they help.

Windows 8 refuses to stay awake

Amazing... I searched for "sleep" here and found the "Windows 8.1 refuses to sleep" thread, which is still going strong after almost 800 posts, talking about the exact opposite problem to the one I'm having! (Now, needless to say, I haven't read the entirety of that thread - yet; could someone...

Task Manager - Open in Windows 8

HOWTO: Start Task Manager automatically with every logon Actually, no. A while back, I posted a tutorial here showing a way to do this that only uses one task, but I couldn't post it in the tutorials section (because I apparently don't have enough mojo or whatever), so I guess it's been...

Solved Launch Task Manager Minimized from Task Scheduler

HOWTO: Start Task Manager automatically with every logon I probably should have started a new thread for this, but the title of this one was perfect, so I decided to borrow it for my post instead of confusing people with multiple threads on the same topic. First, to answer the question posed...

"How do you want to open"? STOP ASKING!

My personal preference is FF, but I do keep the default checking turned on for all of them - because if the default gets changed by any of them, I want to know about it. (I want to be sure every time I fire up some other browser that it knows that it's NOT default.) And BTW, yes, all the...

"How do you want to open"? STOP ASKING!

Sorry, no good. If you read the link I just added to the original message, you'll see that that screen is already set the way I want it, and unsetting and resetting it doesn't stop it from asking.

"How do you want to open"? STOP ASKING!

One big annoyance in Windows 8 is this dialog box, which pops up any time some external program wants to launch a browser to display a Web page. I've already answered this question several dozen times, but apparently it doesn't like the answer I keep giving. If I was paranoid, I might think...

Solved How to declare locations as "inside your local network"?

Good point, and one that I hadn't thought of, since I rarely use public WiFi. However, other people in my family do occasionally go on road trips, so opening things up like this would definitely be a bad idea. This is why I'm taking so long to decide - I want to be different, but every time I...

Solved How to declare locations as "inside your local network"?

I was thinking this over, and it got me to wonder: would it be okay to just add all the non-routables now and leave my decision of which to use for later? 10.*.*.* 172.16.*.* ... 172.31.*.* 192.168.*.* I actually found this page on my own, before you posted the link, but it left me even more...

Solved How to declare locations as "inside your local network"?

That fixed it. I did almost everything you mentioned, except I didn't enter any IP addresses or ranges (because I'm thinking of changing the range my network uses to make more addresses available, and I don't want to have to reconfigure all the machines on my network again when I do). This...

Task Manager - Open in Windows 8

I don't know if this is the best place to post this, but people ought to know: when Task Manager is running, sometimes (and I haven't figured out yet exactly when) clicking on its notification icon will give it focus but fail to bring it to the foreground as it did in previous versions of...
