Hello ladies and gents! :)
I had permission from @Brink to post this on SevenForums, so I hope posting here, too, isn't a problem. :p
I just wanted to share with you guys this cool project where the RPi and thePi drive are used together on a remote-controlled car with a camera demonstrating...
We would need some more detail on this. :)
What happened prior to this issue? What's the make and model of the drive?
Reseat the HDD in the laptop then power on again, does it still not show detail in BIOS? Does it boot up?
If not, pull your drive out and connect it...
I'm sorry, but it does seem like the issue is in the specific connection between the external and the desktop. :/
You could try to update the drivers, or directly reinstall them. If the problem continues, try repairing the system which could reset the drivers. If not, may be a professional...
I'm sorry for your problem with a WD external! :(
Which model is it, a My Passport (which one?), a My Book?
You could try using a different USB cable, a new one, then on every port – USB 3.0 and 2.0, then on another system. Does the same issue occur everywhere? Doyou hear...
I hope you don't have any data you need/want from that drive. Formatting erases everything. Try right clicking firston its Disk# name and Initialize it in MBR. Then right click on its disk space and create a New volume in NTFS and assign a Drive letter.
If this doesn't work, try...
Which is the model of the drive? Is it a WD My Passport (portable) or perhaps a My Book (desktop) or something else? What's the overall size of the device? What happened prior to the issue occurring?
It looks like there has been some sort of error with the drive's file...
It looks like the drive is severely damaged. If it doesn't work through the Live CD, on a completely different PC with another cable or diskpart commands:
Open the Start Menu, type diskpart, press Enter
Type list disk, press Enter
Type select disk X (where X is the number the...
These are not good signs at all.
This means the device has an error with its file system most probably, hence it's prompting you to reformat; additionally, the fact everything freezes and lags, could mean hardware damage or error of some sort. :(
Do you have any data you wish to save...
I'm sorry for your WD HDD! :/
I suppose it's an external drive? Which is the model, is it a My Passport Ultra or may be a MyBook? What happened prior to this issue occurring?
Please change the cable of the drive and try it on multiple USB 3.0 and 2.0 ports and on another...
You're welcome, glad to see everything works now! :)
I'm sorry that the WD drive turned out to be defective, since it's new, you could go for RMA. :)

You could also reset the BIOS before that, just in case because you...
If the laptop itself allows you to run two drives simultaneously, there shouldn't be a problem. I suppose the second you have added on the place of the Optical drive?
So basically it depends on the manufacturer of the laptop and if the motherboard can handle it. Seeing your...
Most of the partitions would create themselves automatically. Recovery would most times not be even visible in Disk Management.
Try installing your OS on, let's say, a 100GB partition, which should be plenty. Everything else should happen automatically. :)
If you receive the...
The WD Align will realign the partitions on internal WD Advanced Format drives on Windows XP, cloned source bootable HDD with any Windows OS or created single or multiple partitions on an AFD using Windows XP. Again, this concerns WD drives.
What do you mean by back up Windows, are you...
I believe this article from the Microsoft KB should be of help to you in that matter exactly.

The SATA II and SATA IIIdiffer in the transfer speed. By SATA II is up to 300 MB/s, and bySATA III – twice as much, 600 MB/s. Usually, the two are backwardcompatible, but in the long run, if it's only for data, it shouldn'tbe that tangible. :)
Games and most programswould...
As I mentioned, the parts may separately be working just fine, but there's obviously something wrong when your external drive is connected with the USB 3.0 cable you have.
The main difference between USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 is the speed, the 3 is 10x faster than the 2, so here the cable's quality...
I apologize if I have misread!
Still, it is clear that somewhat the connection between that certain cable and the HDD is malfunctioning,so if you are sure that the port and hard drive work, change the cable.
If not, then I suppose you could still use your external drive but with lower transfer...
Hi there desmond13!
You have proven that the USB 3.0 port itself works, which is great. Also, you've proven that the drive can work on that port, but obviously with a certain cable.
This is a USB 3.0 portable device you have, but backward compatible allowing you to use it with a USB 2.0 cable...
Hello again, Szyhawk!
I'm glad you were able to get in your external hard drive! Though, the WD Drive Utilities aren't really drivers for the hard drive, it's a software that allows you to configure, manage and diagnose your WD drive; you could also erase and format the drive, set sleep timer...
