    I done it again!

I can't believe how little action this forum is getting these days. Where have all the 8.1 users gone? My latest escapade is to transplant an OS from another almost identical PC to this one, when this one started having problems. I could no longer do a System Restore. And I did not have a...

    I done it again!

How could they be useless, when they ran the world for decades, and are still in use every day, in business and industry. I currently have 12 computers, and half of them are 32 bit machines. Those all run Windows 8.1/Pro/32. And run it very well, thank you.

    Help needed

If the data on the drive is not yours, and you don't need it anyway, why not boot up the laptop with a Flash Drive with another OS on it, like Win-10 or 11, and just make it a clean install. That's what I'd do. In fact, I did something very similar, just recently to an HP laptop that was given...

    I done it again!

I don't have a clue! Now, if someone could come up with a way to run Windows 11 on a 32 bit cpu, they could make a fortune. I have 12 PC's and only half of them have 64 bit CPU's.

    I done it again!

Back in the saddle again. My friend, who gave me money for a new motherboard, for my Main PC, had a bit of bad luck himself. His own motherboard quit working. And since I no longer build new computers, he bought a new one from a local shop. Then he gave me back the Mid Tower Desktop PC that I...

    I done it again!

Ah yes, the old Infamous "MS Office". I gave up on that with Office 2007, when it seemed like it was trying to take over my PC. lol After UN-Installing it, I did a registry cleaning and got rid of 30 MB of left over garbage in my registry. I've only used Open Office or Libre Office, since then.

Win 8.1 on 1GB of RAM and Atom CPU,tweaks and optimization possible?

I have 8.1 running happily on a little Acer One Netbook, with only 1.5GB of ram, but with a 120GB SSD. I've disabled all the MS BS, and only run what's 100% needed. Then I do have it tweaked and tuned for MAX performance. Yes, it's still slow, and painfully small and hard to read, but it's a...

Can i install windows 8.1 OVER ubuntu?

A nice thing about the Windows Installer is that it can install Windows XX on just about any hard drive with an existing OS on it. The installer will stop, and show me the partition configuration on the drive and basically ask me what I want it to do. I just instruct it to DELETE all...

    I done it again!

I'm not sure where you're going with that thought. There is virtually nothing that I ran in Windows 8.1, (or even Win-7) that I cannot run in Windows 11/Pro/64. Admittedly, with some of the programs I like to run, I've downloaded updates to those programs. But then, I always like to keep all...

    I done it again!

The SAGA continues! My old desktop PC has been sitting under my work bench, since the motherboard crapped out on me several months ago. Since I could not afford a replacement motherboard, I had written the old PC off as a lost cause. Then one day, a couple of weeks ago, a really good friend...

    I done it again!

I really dunno! Maybe, because it wasn't all that long ago that I thoroughly cleaned the ram. Actually, based on past experiences, I think that my work on the CPU did more to get things going again than cleaning the ram....again. To be continued!

Can i install windows 8.1 OVER ubuntu?

Gee, that was last year, and we've still not had a report back, whether Windows 8 ever got installed or not.

    8.1 just for fun

A new year, but same old me. And, I'm still fussing with my very old eMachine. A couple of weeks ago, I left it downloading a bunch of updates, to Windows 8.1/Pro/32. (even with an AMC Athlon 64 CPU, it won't have anything to do with any 64 bit program or OS) Anyway, I went back to the little...

    I done it again!

I'm not sure why, but I'm sure that there are folks out there who think that a Computer Tech never has computer problems. Well, that just Ain't So! Friday, I had a my second PC crash in a month. The little HP Slimline, desktop PC that has become my "Main" PC refused to boot. I did all the...

WINDOWS INSTALLER HOG & HIDDEN ... DiskCleaner kudos

I guess it's inevitable, that when I hear someone lamenting about their system slowing down due to the Bloat of junk created by their browsers and a few other programs, I just say "Dude! Clean up your mess!". I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, but I could spend hours and pages of text, explaining...

    I done it again!

Update: The SAGA continues: On Friday the 13th, 2023, the motherboard in my 8 yr old PC died. RIP! I can't afford a new (or even a used) motherboard, so I did the next best thing..... I pulled out the OS drive, from the now defunct PC. It's a little 250GB Crucial SSD, with Windows 8.1/Pro/64...

Solved Tried and Tested / Solid and Stable

Some day, I may be writing my own "Tried and Tested" report on Windows 11. So far, after a month or so, it's all good. This work with Win-11 is still in the experimental phase, so I'm not making any commitments, yet. Most of my old favorite programs have been updated to the latest versions...

turn off end of Support message

First, determine where the message is coming from! If it's coming via Windows Updates, then turn off Windows Updates. You won't need them between now and the EOS date anyway.

    I done it again!

No matter what I'd do to solve the problem of the disappearing speaker icon, including a System Restore and even a Ghost Restore, I just got fed up with fighting with it. I have Windows 11/Pro/64 on a bootable flash drive, and I've already installed it successfully on several other PC's...
