Check device manager for missing devices and find drivers from em.

Disable Windows Defender, Windows Search, Diagnostic Services, Sysmain, Windows Update and of course, telemetry.

You're able to install Server 2012 R2 updates on 8.1 machine ( most of em ), can be obtained from Update Catalog.

You're out of luck. You might be able to modify some drivers to work on 8.1 ( not guaranteed ), not worth the hassle tho. Maybe just use a VM or get something older :)
