I only use the "cloud" as a transport layer between my machines. (I.E. DropBox). I don't store anything there as primary storage and don't plan to.

That looks more like a file corruption issue. I seriously doubt that Win8 (as a system) does anything with PST files ... those are strictly applications level files. It was much more likely to be a bug in the system rather than an intentional incursion on the part of Win8 to modify the PST...
While I was using Win8 I used Stardock's "Start 8" which worked just fine. As to your start-up lag, I doubt the menu enhancement is responsible for that by itself - unless the product you described is running some kind of background process on start-up. I didn't see that with Start8...
I've always had good luck with eBay except once. I bought a 32GB SDHC card from a guy in GB. Paid about $35 or so for it up-front. The card arrived and turned out to be a bad one. He promised to send another one to replace it. I sent multiple messages to him and he simply disappeared so I...
Dropbox is drop-dead simple to use. It lives in your Documents folder just like any other folder and synchronizes automagically across any connected device.
At this point in my career (and life) I'm working on simplifying things down, not make them more complex. Dropbox fills that need...
Dropbox works fantastically well. I have mine set up where I can get to the content from absolutely all my machines. Requires practically no maintenance. Very seamless. Can use it on all my PC's (work and personal), all my iPhones and iPads. Great way to tie all the devices together.

You missed my point. I didn't say MS should stop innovating. I'm saying that they shouldn't try to be everything to everybody, in ANY market. OK, then, by your logic maybe they should start innovating in the fast-food space. Microsoft hamburgers anybody?

Precisely. I absolutely love using my iPad and iPhone for many things but I am constantly running into the same issue. If I come onto a message board on one of those devices it's fine for awhile when reading but as soon as I want to make a significant post involving editing any content I'm off...
Interesting. I've found the iPads and iPhones very reliable. Perhaps the mix of applications.
As for PC, I can't imagine dumping a Windows box for a Mac. Even if it was "better" (as Apple fanboys will say) I can't see it, nor will I dump thousands of my investment in PC-related development...
Microsoft has always been stronger in the enterprise markets and with desktop O/S software. Sometimes, honestly, I wonder why some companies just can't be content with the market they are in. They have to try and attack everything. It would have done Microsoft no harm to have simply said "Hey...
Sure he does, Ray. I love Windows too but when it came to tablets I chose iPad.
I don't think I'd ever get involved in heavy iOS development, I've spent most of my career developing to the Microsoft stack. However, I'm departing the upgrade path at Win7, I think. Nothing I'm doing requires...
Not me. As I said in a previous post, I love Windows. I've developed for it for many moons - but if I'm going to use a tablet I want it to be completely a tablet O/S, not some hybrid of a desktop and the "Metro" interface. The model just doesn't work for me. I'm not an Apple "fanboy" but...
True but the Surface Pro isn't in the same league as an iPad.
The iPad isn't always used for the same thing as the Surface Pro is intended for. The Surface is intended as a hybrid tablet/PC. On the tablet side it's going to be a long time before the Surface Pro can match the iPad in terms of...
I have the XPS-8300 and, yes, it's an excellent box. I use it mainly for video processing and flight simulation. My Inspiron 17R I use for everything else. Between the two of them there's quite a bit of computing punch in my lab.

Could be, but Linux represents less than 2% of the desktop market. Sounds like media spin to me. Microsoft has nothing to gain by investing the considerable funds it would take to develop a Linux variant of Office.

Well, yeah ... you could put a shortcut for all your programs in the Metro but if they're desktop applications you will be taken to the desktop to run them.
Most applications are still desktop right now, you're not going to find all Metro programs for quite some time.
