If Secure Boot is on then Windows 8 is confirmed to be UEFI booted, right?
I just updated the BIOS and the startup changed from the usual ASUS logo to the Windows 8 logo, but in msinfo32 the BIOS mode is UEFI and Secure Boot is on.
And to add, my boot SSD is GPT.
My recent install is the USB 3 Boost by ASUS.
Removed it and cleaned up the poorly done uninstall with an unofficial tool.
Did the SFC scan and it reports no integrity problems.
Task Manager seems to be back proper.
Monitoring before marking as solved.
Recently Task Manager decides to crash on open.
After that these 2 entries are created in the Event Viewer:
Event ID: 1000, Source: Application Error

Took quite some time, luckily there's enough HDD around otherwise data will be sacrificed.
In the end the problem lies with the HDD from the old PC.
So for people who are going to use their old data HDD in their UEFI Win 8 build, make sure that there are no logical/extended...

I can install the UEFI version fine, just had booting problem.
OK, it boots after reinstall with with the bare minimum.
Connected the HDD and boot problem again.
This time it stucked at "preparing automatic repair".
On research it seems like uefi doesn't boot proper...
I've tried Automatic Repair but not consecutive 3 times.
Maybe I'll try that.
Maybe I'll try installing without the graphics card, sound card and my 2 other HDD.
Go to the bare minimum.
Kind of sucks when I bought a new PC just to try out Windows 8.
