Need to recover windows 8 from windows 10 Help!

If it's network adapters and sound drivers that are out of whack, try opening Device Manager and rolling back to earlier versions. If that fixes it, then block future updates from Windwos Update. It's odd that you say you update to 10 almost a year ago and these problems suddenly appeared. I...

    Solved Can't click on anything

HP uses Synaptics driver for the touchpad. Go to Device Manager, uninstall the driver and either go to the HP site to download for your model or let Windows Update find it. If you uninstall it and have HP Support Assistant, it will find it, download it and install for you.

Solved Installed Windows Updates - now black screen after login?!

"I also first thought, "System restore" - as I was aware that Windows always creates restore points before installing Windows Updates. But on checking in there, for some reason my last restore point was months ago!" Not on 8.1 any more but System Restore is turned off by default now. Windows...

Solved Installed Windows Updates - now black screen after login?!

same here with the Windows 10 update, same day. Next day, my laptop stalled on black screen instead of loading in a minute, like normal. I had to press power button down until shut down. Start up again, which went fine but slowly. Then Windows Modules Installer worked in background to finish...

Solved I set safe mode in msconfig.exe and safe mode won't boot.

Can you restart and get into your log in screen ? If you can, enter safe mode by pressing the power button icon (lower right corner) then Shift + restart. That gets you to Advanced Settings where Safe Mode and, if that fails, Reset PC to orig settings. If you can't, try a hard reset by...

Windows 8.1 upgrade to Windows 10 - Home or Pro version?

I think you already suspect that won't work. The orig OS comes with downgrade rights, a downgraded system does not. The Samsung has an embedded 8.1 Home key that will be read by Windows 10 as an activation key for Windows 10 Home, not Pro. If you installed Windows 7 Pro to your old laptop after...

    Upgrading Windows 8.1 >> Windows 10 question...free space

22gb is about the size of all my Windows 8.1 images, I've ever made, too. This is w/o any personal files, just the OS and installed programs. As the orig poster found out, installing from the ISO will also create the .old folder so the space must be available on the device for that folder, no...

How to tell what software is on my new Windows 8.1 laptop?

Take the advice to copy the Recovery Drive onto a USB thumb drive. It is essentially the same as getting the OEM installation DVDs which you can still order but would be no different. The option to do this is in the Program folder 'Security and Protection' which also contains the Recovery...

How to tell what software is on my new Windows 8.1 laptop?

I did the same, XP SP3 to 8.1. Uninstall the McAfee and Avast, they are probably trial versions that you'll need to replace eventually, anyways. Use the built-in Windows Defender, it has both anti-virus and malware protection and is updated daily thru Windows Update or in program itself. And...

Solved I want to make an "image" of my system..

I think he directed that at me and mis-understood. By excluding OneDrive and User folders, I DO have an image with just Windows and all installed Programs, but no Pictures, Music, etc that take up a lot of space and I back those up separately and often. It's too time consuming to find and...

Solved I want to make an "image" of my system..

Thanks, that answers my Q in post 3. I do exactly what the op wants to do, using Acronis 2015 and just excl my User and OneDrive folders. The OS image is only 22gb and takes about an hour to do and validate. I allows a Recovery Manager at startup by hitting F11 which boots into Acronis and you...

Solved I want to make an "image" of my system..

Clint; does Macrium Free allow OS backup only, like the op wants ? In other words, choose not to backup My Docs, My Music, etc in order to make smaller image ? I think older Free editions were full disk backup only. I see a new v6 version just came out a couple weeks back.

Solved Windows 8.1 System Restore failing, error 0x80070571

hau5junkie87 ... SFC checked out fine, and performed a System Refresh instead. On my current, refreshed system, however, System Restore is fully operational and that puts a smile on my face. For that reason I have marked the issue as "Solved". Happy to hear that everything got worked out w/o...

Solved Windows 8.1 System Restore failing, error 0x80070571

"jds63 -- thanks for your help man. So I checked out the Cbs.log and these are the two files that couldn't be fixed:" Uninstalling KB322345 is the first thing to try. His log is virtually the same as the one in post 3 in this thread - Some files cannot be repaired! from this article -...
