One folder with different file sizes

Hi all,

My computer is out of free space for some time now and is beginning to give me some problems. I recently copied 14 Gb to my D disk and deleted them from C to find out my C disk was full again the next day. The solution for this problem must be nearby but I can’t figure out what’s going on. There is one thing that is very strange I think. When I right click on the folder users/Niels I can see that the folder contains 45 Gb which can’t be right. When I select all the folders in the folder Niels the folders combined give a total of about 7 Gb which seems pretty accurate. If the folder Niels would also say 7 Gb I think my problem is solved. Also my synology diskstation can be found under the C disk but that can’t be the problem because the synology hold 350 Gb as where the C disk can only hold 150 Gb. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks and regards, Niels.

Hi again,

I downloaded treesize and I think I found out what takes up so much space. In both my wifes as in my account under "Users" there is a hidden folder that is named "Appdata". Under "Appdata" I find the folders "Roaming", "local", "Locallow" and "Temp". The folder Roaming is by far the biggest folder and contains all sort of folder of programs I recognize. They were once installed on my computer or are not anymore. One of them is "Apple computer". I think it contains backups from iphones and Ipads.

Is the folder "Roaming" an important one? Is there any way to empty this folder without harming the computer?

Regards, Niels.

Do not delete "Roaming", it's a system folder.
Instead look within this to see which folders are using the space. Some of the folders are Microsoft
and are related to various system components, but others will be created and used by various software
you have installed

Thanks Dave, the folder that holds the most Gb is “Apple computer”. I think it has to do with backups from iPads and iPhones. I know want to move all the folders in “users” to the D disc but from what i understand that is easier said than done.

But can it be done under windows 8.1 in the same way?

Right click the items/properties. If "Location" exists, the procedure should be the same

Hi Dave, if I rightclick on the folder I can go to properties. Under "general" I can of course see in which location the folder is. But I can't change it to another drive.

Go to All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Cleanup. Run it and, when it shows how much space it can recover, check the boxes for Temporary Files and Recycle Bin. After it runs, reboot. Does that help?

"Schijfopruiming" or Disk cleanup does not give me the solution I want. I want to move my "user" folders to another disc. The option from Dave did not work in 8.1. Anyone who can point me in the right direction?

This is from my own 8.1 system. The facility is there, did you try it?
