Hello! I am new to the forum and not relatively tech-savvy. I apologize if this question is naive or I missed a solution conspicuously posted.

I'm trying to update my computer using Windows Update, but it keeps failing.

This is the error I'm getting:

And this is the basic information about my computer:

How should I proceed to make sure this computer is up to date?

This is not a solution, but additional information. Once KB4338815 is installed, it reboots into an error that can't be fixed.

Thanks, Sebastian. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to solve this problem?

It could be a 'bad' windows update. This happens sometimes. It says it is an 'Important' update but at least it is not a 'Critical' update so maybe give Microsoft a while to fix it and try again in two/three weeks? I do not think you are on your own with this problem.

'Try again later' would be an option, if my choice of being consulted before installation did get not auto-reversed.

I have experienced Microsoft changing my Windows Update (WU) settings without my permission and I find that altering the settings to "Never check for updates (not recommended)" stops this. I then run WU manually once per month every second Wednesday. Updates are released monthly every 2nd Tuesday but due to time zone differences it is best to wait until Wednesdays. This gives you control but do not forget to run WU monthly or you will miss updates which fix security issues. This way even if an update fails you can then try again at another time because you have control as well as the responsibility.

That sounds like a useful strategy - I will try it - thank you.

Okay. Thank you. I'm still receiving the same error, but perhaps Microsoft will resolve it. I'll give it a few weeks.

Sometime Microsoft even 'pull' updates because of problems so when you check again the problem update may not appear.
