Does everyone know about indexing in Windows 8?
If the edge UI search comes up short, have you indexed your computer?

    Update:
Why the edge UI search and results display is limited to 250 files or 25 rows of 10 is unknown for now. Maybe a registry tweak.

Also: > For performance reasons, or other reasons, it may be best to minimize the number of locations to index or turn off indexing altogether.

Run > services.msc > find Windows Search > right click to select properties >
change the startup type to "disabled" > select to "stop" and yes to "stop services" > click apply and ok

Will you still be able to search something after you turn the service off?

The search using the desktop explorer works fine with indexing turned off.
Why the "file" search results is limited to 25 rows of 10 in the edge UI is unknown to me.
The apps search works fine with indexing off.

Great idea and post, mdmd! I sense you are very much on top of things.

Do you mind if we use this in the sticky thread "Suggested Steps to Take"? If so, I'll place a link to your OP here.

I guess so. Possibly, the edge UI "file search results" works better if one is searching for a particular file name. Apparently it does not do so well with "wildcards" > *.* or *.jpg etc... due to the 25 rows of 10 limit. What if you have 800 jpg's or docs? Only 250 file names appear in the edge UI file search results.
