On my WIndows 8 Pro install file search works in Desktop but not in Metro and I've messed around with Indexing to try to get it to work to no avail. Interesting though that I installed Windows 8 Enterprise on my work laptop and file searching works in both Desktop and Metro. Have you found anything in the indexing options or registry specific to Metro side?

Nope! It's still a question. As far as indexing goes, unless the panel says "indexing complete" it may not function properly if any changes were made to locations. If every location is entered, C:*.* - all of Windows - everything > and the indexing operation completed, it should be available in the edge UI using wildcards. Even if the indexed locations are restricted to document folders, when the indexing is completed, the search should work?! I don't have the answer yet why there is a 250 file name limit.
I would like to know the registry entry locations that pertain to the edge UI search!

I see. You can still search in Explorer. That's more than enough for me.

Also applied it to Win7 but for both cases, the search in the libraries is not working (they were indexed locations) but this is a known thing so I'm not complaining. I should also check to see if the index file is deleted (located in ProgramData somewhere, it can get big especially with a lot of files on the drive).

    Thanks for the tweak mdmd.

Yeah. You can add or remove locations.
This is the default on 8 Enterprise Eval. (not much!)

In dire need of the ability to index network locations, it's not a Windows 8 specific problem as this problem started with Windows 7. However in Windows 8 it is more of an issue because the Metro Apps like Music, Video and Photes seem to only like Library locations. If the locations are not indexed the media does not show up in these Apps automatically and manually searching them is slow, again because of no indexing.

You can't index network locations remotely. What you can do is enabling indexing on the computer that hosts the network share. Your Windows client will connect to the remote index for search.
