    Shutting down Win 8

My biggest problem in Win 8 is how do you find that "sweet spot" that you hover over to bring up what they call "Charm". If I hover the mouse at the bottom right corner it brings up the icons (settings, etc.) and sometimes the Charm. But most times it doesn't come up. I then move the mouse back and forth, up and down and finally it comes up. The same thing at the bottom left. Is there a way to bring up what is supposed to come up and not wonder if you are at the right spot or not? Sometimes I can spend a couple of minutes just to find the Settings icon to shut it down. Very annoying.

Try Windows key + C and arrow up or down.

On a traditional machine, Win+C is indeed better / faster, although moving to the top right or bottom right is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. On a touch device, obviously, this is a moot point .

Looks like MS has pushed that further to the edge of the screen. Good thing really - that fairy wand would pop out apparently randomly with some of the earlier builds.

    I just ignore it.

You might prefer to use Classic Shell - you can customize it and have sensible way to get to shutdown/sleep/etc

    Hello Frank,

If you like, you could use the tutorial below to make using a "Power" option (shut down, restart, etc....) from the Desktop context menu.

Power - Add Cascading Desktop Context Menu in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

Thanks, Brink- I'll study that since your tutorials have always been very helpful. Since I got the tip on Windows key plus C, I haven't been cussing nearly as much. I'll now study your tutorial and maybe I can completely stop cussing.

It just takes the right hand side corners to pull up the Charms. There really isn't a "sweet" spot per se, just a quick flick over to the corners.

Another option is to create shutdown and reboot shortcuts on the desktop or anywhere you can put an shortcut.

Just right click on desktop and select new short cut-> type 'C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 01' or for reboot 'C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe -r -t 01' without the quotes. And then you can change the icon appearance to differentiate and of course rename them.
