How to choose an OS to run Matlab and Mathematica

    Hi !

I'm setting up a 64 bit PC aimed exclusively to run Matlab and Mathematica (no other software will be required, except some very basic utility, es. WinRar). I need to realize which Windows version (7, 8, 10, etc.) best fits my needs: it should employ all hardware's power without flooding and making heavier the machine with features and programs totally unnecessary in this situation.

    Any suggestion is very welcomed.

    Thanks !

    Windows 8.1 Pro 32-bit

To run both, looks like it will have to be the 64-bit version of Windows. I've found that Win 10 is faster than Win 7 or Win 8.1.

Matlab . . . Note: As of R2016a, Windows 32-bit operating systems are no longer supported . . . System Requirements for MATLAB R2016a (Professional & Student versions)

Wolfram Mathematica . . . Mathematica 10 System Requirements and Platform Availability

    Maybe 7-Zip, it's free, instead of WinRAR . . . 7-Zip

Why did you choose to use the username you have? I went with Windows 8 because I was shocked someone else hadn't taken in already, and I kinda felt like having an appropriately themed username :p. (This is Windows i7 920 from SevenForums).
