So, my friend got an ironside computer (literally yesterday) and it crashes for him whenever he plays games. We thought it may be overheating, but task manager said its just fine (Highest anything got was 80 then it went super low) and we felt the computer while running a game every now and then, and it was not hot. here are his specs

OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit )6.3, Build 9600)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
System Model: To be filled by O.E.M.
BIOS: FB
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) X4 860K Quad Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~3.7GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Page Fil: 2323<B used, 7732MB Available
DirectX Version: DirectX 11.

Please help us! We really like playing GMod and making videos! :(

One thing a game will do that normal surfing, etc., will not do is load up and stress out the RAM.

If that 8GB of ram is in two sticks, try taking out one of them and see if the PC still crashes.
If it does, then pull out the second stick and put the first one back in and try the game again.

I had a similar problem recently when trying to install a new OS on a friend's Laptop.
The install would go just fine, up to 87% and then CRASH, with an error message.
At the risk of being considered insane, I did try the install multiple times, even with different Install DVD's.
But I kept getting the exact same result.

He had added an extra 4GB SODIMM to his laptop, and it was made by Kingston, and under a heavy load, it would FAIL!
(although under Memtest 86+, it would pass the test.) It's not the first time I've ever seen that.
After working on PC's for 36+ years, I've seen all sorts of weird things.

So look to the RAM as a possible cause of the problem.
Please come back and let us know what you find.

Cheers mate!
