RAM never clearing out when downloading

    Hey all,

I built a PC about a year ago and everything has run great on it besides this. My only issue I've noticed is when I'm download ANYTHING large enough it will max out my 8 GBs of RAM (a steam games for example). Say I'm downloading a 30gb game file. I will have to restart my computer 2 or 3 times during the install because my memory usage will slowly climb up during the install until it maxes out at 99-100% and starts locking my PC up. Is it just bad ram? Should I order new memory or is it something with my OS that is causing the issue? I'm pretty stumped on this one as I have never really run into this problem before. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Post a screenshot of Task Manager, Performance tab showing memory information when the problem occurs. Bad memory will not cause this.

Whats with MsMpEng.exe? Windows Defender crap from what googles saying...I think i have that disabled now but that same thing is still happening even after restarting. Any ideas on how I can fix this? My memory was around 65-70% after downloading 2 Steam games. I restarted and its at 35% now and climbing again.

The Non Paged Pool is the problem. The most likely cause is a drive issue or malware.

Yeah, when memory usage climbs like you're experiencing, it's known as a "memory leak". It's a software issue, some program is allocating memory as it needs it but then not releasing it when it no longer needs it.

The hard part is determining WHICH program (or driver) is the culprit. Is this a recent occurrence? If it just started happening after you installed some new piece of software then that is where you should start. Another tact would be to do a system restore to your last restore point to see if the problem goes away.

Hm it's been happening for a while now so it would be hard to tell. I will look into it further and see if I can pin down the culprit.

I think we fixed it! Some googling action let me to this:

This killer network manager that came with my Motherboard was the issue, that registry edit seemed to do it. I've been downloading a game now for 15 minutes and my memory is staying the same! You guys rock thanks for the help.
