Hi first off merry christmas!

win 8.1

The windows key and then type in search function has stopped working. Stopping the indexing process and deleting the Data folder hasn't helped revive the search.

Any ideas very welcome

well for one, Agent Ransack is miles better try that..

and two, you don't "stop the indexing process" if you want search to work!

go back and type "services.msc" in a command prompt window and look to make sure indexing is on. (I think there are actually two services that relate to searching but off-hand I can't remember the 2nd one!)

Sorry for the late rely, Christmas and all that.
Thanks for the replies
axe0 thanks for the link. I got this from the scan:
'Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.Log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note thgat logging is currently not supported in offline servicing scenarios.'

When I press the windows key for the search and enter the start letters of the software I wish to start it still cant find anything.

brooksndun thanks, the Windows search is running and the startup type is set to Automatic (Delayed Start)

Thanks again for the help so far
Cheers
Chris

A reboot and another sfc/scannow command should completely fix the corruption.

axe0 Thanks

Yeah I read somewhere that sometimes it takes 3 scans to fix the problem, so I did it twice more + reboot and the problem persists. Still no software is found upon win+ text type in. The last documents are found but not the app itself. Windows search/ indexing is up and running when I check services.msc.

Thanks for your help so far
There sure is some voodoo going on!
