Hello everyone. My laptop(Asus K450JN, same as my system spec below) suddenly crashed today and there was no BSOD or any other error message. I wasn't playing games and there was no overheating. It happened just like a force shutdown(like someone pressing the power button and shutting it off), Note that my power button needs to be pressed(hold) for a few seconds if you want to shut it down.

I was running google chrome and firefox when it happened. To be more specific, I was using gitter, and learning javascript from codeacademy. Can anyone help me with this?

Update- I tried playing games for some time and thus increasing temperature, but there is no shutdown yet(at the time of writing)

my battery is hardwired inside my laptop. it doesn't charge beyone 90%, and yesterday it started shutting down when charge at was 37%. today its shutting down when charge is at 60%. i guess the battery is almost dead? hwmonitor shows that battery wear level is 27%. battery bar icon in the tray icon, it also states "x remaining hour" but shuts down within half an hour-1 hour

The file is saved to your desktop, if you copy/paste the command.
If the site does not accept this file because of the extension, you need to create a zip and upload the zip file.

Also, how to upload files

The battery is certainly not dying, its on 2/3 of the capacity when got it.
Do you have extra options in your power options that says something like 'not fully charging for battery protection'?

I had extra options to enable something so the battery did not charge for a 100% for protection.

i have heard that lenovo laptops have this feature..
well, today morning, the max charge capacity was 91%, so it has dropped by 1%.

it was shutting down(like force shut down) at 37% in the morning, but from the afternoon, its shutting down at around 67%.
when everything was okay with the laptop(before this problem), my laptop could hold 100% charge..

by the way, i can't afford a new battery because its not available in india. i could import it, but the customs office here are very worse. people often don't receive the item.

It does sound like a problem with your battery, but it is not because the battery is 'dying'

Please try the following:

  • Open an admin command prompt
  • Copy/paste "sfc/scannow" (without quotes) and press enter
  • When it finished reboot your system
  • Open again an admin command prompt
  • Enter sfc/scannow again
If sfc/scannow does NOT say "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violation", please upload the cbs.log file located at {windows partition}\Windows\Logs\CBS\, if the file is too large try a 3rd party uploader like dropbox, onedrive, google drive, mediafire etc.
System File Check(SFC a.k.a. Windows Resource Protection) needs to have your system rebooted in order for sfc to try to fix the problems that it finds.

The file that is 'corrupted' is a false positive, nothing to worry about.

You mean the psu doesn't charge for 1 minute?

i meant my battery is not even giving me 1 minute back up from the morning.
its like, you remove the ac adapter's plug from the wall, and the laptop shuts down...

i will check if its properly seated and post the results.

this is my battery model

$_57.JPG

my battery is connected via a wire, as you can see in the image, it also needs screws(hinges) . The screws, they must go through the laptop's cover(i mean the outer surface), and then go through the two small holes.

I see yes, please make sure the wires are properly connected back in the laptop.

That is not a dying battery, but more a defective one.
A dying battery has less then 1/3 or 1/4 of its original capacity, depending on how much luck the owner has.

How old is your laptop exactly?
If your laptop is a few years old, then that would explain it more.
A battery life time is usually just a few years, after 2-3 (if lucky 4-5) years a battery needs to be replaced which you'll notice by then due to not charging properly, crashes when charger not plugged and super fast draining.

i bought it on last september/october and my battery has been giving me a constant amount of back up(4.5hours).. that is, until the last 3 days.
what i mean is, it has been giving me a constant 4.5 hours backup(on idle) for the entire year.(never even reduced by 1 hour).
also note that i keep my laptop turned on 24*7

when my laptop was running fine, hwmonitor was showing me a wear level between 14%-30%(the level increases and decreases, but the back up time has always been the same).

but from the last few days it has been acting like this..
