    Win 7 Hard Drive Backup

Forgive me, but I don't know which topic area to post this. My wife who knows less about computers than I, and I know zip, needs to backup her laptop. What is the simplest way to accomplish this? Please do not take this as sexist. I've been married for over 50 years, to the same woman, and I know better. I need to keep this backup as simple as possible. The only thing I know is that an external storage device will be required. One more item if you can't see it and feel it doesn't exist.

You could use the built in backup tool in Windows 7 (Control Panel->Tools and Maintenance). Otherwise, you could just manually copy/paste files to the external hard drive.

    I'd recommend getting a 1TB external USB 3.0 drive for $50 to %60.
Then use a program like Macrium Reflect Free to create the image. Also take the time to create the Macrium Rescue disc which is what you would boot if you ever had to restore the image to your hard drive.

Good tutorial on using Macrium here: Imaging with free Macrium
It's says Windows 7 but applies toe Windows 8 as well.

For backing up files, Windows has its own capable backup application,

but you can find dozens of backup programs that are easier or more versatile, including notables such as Acronis Backup & Recovery ,
