Windows 8.1 Slow Machine | 100% HD Active Time

    Hi guys

Need some help with a really frustrating issue I've started to get on my system in the last couple of days

    Issue

Very poor response times to doing anything on my system. C drive activity is at 100%. I've seen the activity queue at it's worst up at 50, but seems to be regularaly around 5-10 when I want to do anything.

If I leave the machine alone the process queue eventually runs down, but as soon as I do anything at all, it goes mental, and the computer becomes unusable.

I'm no stranger to this rodeo, and have been trial and erroring some stuff already.

Disabled Windows Search, no change. Disabled Windows Indexing, no change. Disabling Windows Defender, no change. Disabled Superfetch, no change. Disabled BITS, no change. Disabled Onedrive.....which had a positive effect for around 5 mins, then back to 100% activity when trying to do anything. Uninstalled Google Chrome [as this was taking a life time to load and then kept crashing out on me]...again seemed to have an improvement, but then straight back to 100% disk activity.

I've scanned system with anti malware bytes [when I was eventually able to load the page in a browser] that came back clear.

Scanned with Windows Defender which was all clear also.

Chkdsk also came back fine. No bad sectors and no disk errors

I've taken a few screen shots from system performance which I'll tag onto this thread.

I'm literally at a loss now as to what it can be.

It's a clean install of 8.1 pro 64bit that was done 3 weeks ago, and was running absolutely fine until Friday just gone.

I've not installed anything new since then to account for the issue.

At the moment the system isn't doing anything intensive, it was built to be my server, but at the moment it can't even load IE without freezing.

    System Specs

    AMD AM1 5350
    8gb DDR3 Kingston Fury Ram
    2 x WD 1.5tb Green drives
    Asus AM1I-A Mini ITX Board
    Windows 8.1 pro 64bit OS

sysperf image 2 [this shows me just having IE open trying to type bitdefender in to IE. Typing that froze have way through, and then loaded the shown info in sysperf

Next screen shot shows a capture of Process Explorer while IE is still trying to load search result, and windows explorer trying to load

This is the type of activity I was getting while trying to install BitDefender. Getting a lot of audiodg.exe entries and I'm not sure what they are.

Perform a clean boot to see if it has to do with the installed programs.

I'll look into that tomorrow morning axe0.

Can't do it at the moment as the machine is basically a headless machine, accessed via RDP only. so I'll have get monitor and keyboard hooked up.

Incidentally I took a little video of the disk activity to demonstrate what's happening. This is after a reboot that took forever. Me doing nothing at all on the machine.

Okay, so everytime I run Chkdsk it always finds errors on the disk. I am unsure why, but if I run chkdsk back to back, it will keep constantly find new errors every time. Also, the Chkdsk takes about 2 and a half hours to complete, and always gets stuck at 10% for most of that time. This is...
I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 14.04 & Windows 8.1 just Yesterday. Now in Windows 8 There is a pecular problem. Whenever i interact with any object on the screen, the computer freezes, for about 30-40 secs. This happens almost all the time say 5-6 times in 10 minutes. The reason behind this...
High Disk Active Time - Is My SSD Dying? in Performance & Maintenance
This just started happening recently and I don't know why. Performance monitor doesn't show anything irregular, neither does process monitor. I've run an sfc scan and chkdsk too as well as updating everything and seeing if disabling av software helped but nothing has. 45826
I'm wondering if anyone has tried ToolWiz Time Freeze or Time Machine on W8? It looks interesting. I'm reading the info for Time Machine but so far I see no mention of GPT. With rollback type stuff my biggest fear is that the rollback software will hose my system rather than the malware. :)
Howdy, I've been having an issue with my Acer S7-391. I bought the Windows 8 machine in December, and the majority of the time when I start it up in the morning, it doesn't boot properly - it hangs on a black screen for ages. I then have to hit the off button and boot it back up again...
Windows 8 slow boot time in Performance & Maintenance
I'm having issues with my Win8x64 desktop box. The problem is that every 4th or 5th boot, windows just hangs at the boot screen for about 3-4 minutes without any activity(at this point i can see the num lock key blink multiple times) & then the loading indicator comes up & everything starts...
So, I've had a couple of machines now giving me trouble with the installation of the RTM releases that I downloaded with my MSDN account. I tried a computer at home, which failed to display the screen properly during the install of the 64bit version of Enterprise. I switched to 32bit and that...
