Okay, I'll see if I can find the drivers. Today I tried the monitor methods and none of them worked, so maybe it's something different. But any idea how the video driver could have been corrupted, if that's the case here?

That is usually when a registry entry get's deleted or changed, from a user or program.

Ah, that might explain the situation here.

I just remembered that I tried finding the manufacturer's site before and couldn't find anything. Are there any trustworthy/official sites for the manufacturer "Standard CD-ROM drives"?

Wait, by corrupt video driver what do you mean? If it's the drive called "Windows (C" or the like, that's the one I was referring to in #74. If you mean a graphics card driver, I have Intel HD Graphics 4600, which is integrated.

I downloaded the Intel Driver Update Utility and scanned with it, but it returned the message "No drivers were detected for your product." I did find a matching graphics driver to download on the Intel website:

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...7-8-8-1-64-bit

Do you mean something like this, Cliff S?

As long as this is the driver you have, yes, I would download it, and reinstall it.

Ok, I'll try that out when I get to my computer later today. If you happen to post again before I download it, are there any special directions or warnings I should know about when downloading a graphics driver?

Just make sure it's the right one. You can compare it to the one you have in device manager>display adapter, to double check the name.

Ok, sorry I wasn't able to post as soon as possible. I used the .exe file to try to install the driver, but I got an error message saying it was incompatible or would not work correctly. It linked me to an Intel support page:

Graphics Drivers — Computer Manufacturer Graphics Driver Detected

This explained my problem with the update utility as well, so I went here to find software from HP (Hewlett-Packard):

    Computer Manufacturer Support

That linked me here, where I searched with the computer's product number,

HP Drivers and Downloads for Printers, Scanners and More | HP® Support

Then finally it linked me here:

HP ENVY 700-109c Desktop PC Drivers and Downloads | HP® Customer Support

I don't know why I put all the links, just wanted to put every detail for whatever reason. Anyways, I clicked the "Check Now" button, which made me install an HP information software. It used that to detect what software and drivers would be compatible with the computer. I used the installer under Driver-Graphics:

HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support

The version actually seemed to be lower than the one shown in my Intel HD Graphics Control Panel. The one there said 10.18.14.4029, but the one HP listed was 10.18.10.3262 Rev. A. I decided to download it anyways. A support video for updating HP drivers showed that there was an option for 32 and 64-bit, but this page didn't have that so I went ahead with the only download button.

After that, it showed some installing progress bars that eventually lead to an error message: "
Intel Graphics Driver update did not complete successfully (259)."
So that's basically all I was able to do. Not sure how I can fix that error now.
