Green loading screen when opening folders - HELP!

I have had Windows 8 for the past year and a half. For the past 4 months or so, every time I open a folder for the first time in, say an hour or two (maybe every time the laptop goes to sleep and wakes up again), the screen goes completely green for about 5-10 seconds, and takes me back to the desktop. Other applications that are up such as Internet or Steam do not close, however the folder that I attempted to open does not open. At this point when I open a folder it opens as usual. From here on I can open and close folders without the green screen, but like I mentioned previously it seems that after some amount of time with no folders open, I get the green screen again when opening a folder. I have no idea what could be causing this! Any advice is appreciated!

The only thing I can think of is either a hardware fault or display driver problem. I suppose it could be a pretty messed up virus; they do all sorts of weird crap. Maybe try scanning for viruses, if you can; scan from Safe Mode for a better chance at catching them.

See, that, as far as I know, describes what can happen when the display driver fails and restarts. I think it's safe to say that this is the likely culprit. Assuming you have a backup of the driver, try uninstalling the display driver, to see if it still happens, and if it doesn't update the driver or try an older version.
