I remember using such tools long time ago, over time ( hopefully ) you'll figure the best way is not to use them at all, but instead watch out what you install in first place.

There are many tools built into windows which you can use to administer you system without using 3rd party bloatware, it just takes time to learn how to use them.

Basically NO -- not after the fact.

The uninstallers say they use sophisticated/advanced algorithms (i.e., guesswork) to hunt down and find all the remnants of program installs.

By and large, they do a fairly good job, but none of them remove "all traces".

They do, however, generally provide some kind of monitoring mode that you enable, which then makes a record of everything that a new app creates during its installation. With that record, the uninstaller can do a much better job of removal, later.

    Good answer, very true !!

Most never get all. Can try a safer reg cleaner like CCleaner to find some items, would not advice to use any other third party Registry software.

Within the context menu when you have a uninstaller program like Revo, a context option to install with Revo ,enabling it to monitor the install for all traces. Then an uninstall.

Wanted to use Revo uninstaller free, but have 64bit system and only the paid version is full native 64bit, as not sure how it will work.

You should avoid any product from IOBit. Among other things the company has been associated with unethical if not actually illegal business practices. Some of the software is well known for causing problems. It has a poor reputation with most members of this forum.

Applications create registry entries in a variety of locations for a wide variety of purposes. There are no firm standards for this, only guidelines, and they are frequently ignored. Registry entries have no identification as to which application created them. Only the application installer (and developer) has full knowledge of this. The uninstaller provided with the application often by design leaves traces of the application behind. There are some situations where fully removing all traces cannot be done safely.

No third party uninstaller can guarantee to remove all traces of an application.

The best you can do is use software that tracks changes when the application is installed. This information can then be used during the uninstallation process. The Pro version of Revo Uninstaller can do this. Needless to say this software must be installed and running when the application was originally installed. Not having used the software I cannot comment on how well it works.

If you are looking for a free version with 64-bit support, there are only 2 actually:

GeekUninstaller and Wise Program Uninstaller - both provide comparable results.

I use Revo Uninstaller Pro on my 64bit Windows -- it works very well, when used very well from start to finish.
