    Unexpected high memory usage

Hello guys, Iíve been running linux for a couple of days but then I managed to use Windows again since I needed it for my work. Unfortunately Iím getting a little trouble for the memory management. I updated Windows and Kasperksy database when I got a free times, but then I realized that my RAM usage always increased and never decreased. I close every program that is known to use high memory such as Chrome and all other running program just to find out (like aimp, steam, kasperksy, etc) but nothing changed. I never had this problem before because most of the time I have around 42-50% RAM usage. But now even in idle, the RAM usage stay high. As I write this post with only 1 tab opened in Chrome I have 65% RAM usage and the system felt sluggish (the screenshot was taken yesterday)

From your screenshots it looks like your installation is running Maintenance, which is likely because you said you haven't used Windows in a couple of day's, and it has to catch up.... it can take a while to finish. Best thing to do is when you don't need to use the PC leave it on, connected to the internet(for updates and syncing) make sure it doesn't go to sleep(I have mine set for 4 hours)

Also to be honest 4GB ram is a bit small for Windows 8, it'll run, but bottleneck a lot(it also did on my Windows 7 laptop). 6-8GB is the "sweet spot", anything over that is good if you run virtual machines.

Hi Cliff S Thanks you for the advise. I'll try leaving the laptop stand by tonight and see what happen in the morning. I'll update this post again, probably tomorrow I guess.

If I force a maintenance on my PC in Action center it slows me way down too(see my system specs), that's why I thought of that first.

So what do you think should I just leave the laptop and wait till the automate schedule to run or run it manually from Action Center? Btw just a little more things, I just watched a movie and doing a homework after it and I got around 79% RAM usage, now I open this forum with chrome (with 2 tab opened) I got 88% RAM usage.

High ram usage isn't so bad especially when your you've been using your computer a while doing different things. It's when you have Constant CPU usage for seemingly no reason, that it's time to worry. For example when using a "Live Disk" like trying a Linux distro or WinPE recovery environment, your whole OS is in RAM, that's what it's for (and why 8GB is perfect).

One more thing, I have 16GB RAM, also 4x what you have, compare and look at my values to yours. I've been doing different things for about 7 1/2 hours today(rebooted once after using windows update cleanup this morning).

Yes, it isn't bad for high memory usage when I'm using a program, but right now my laptop just feel slow (take a moment for the program to launch and even minutes for game) not gonna be a problem for the program that already loaded in memory. As written in the article:
high memory usage isn’t always a good thing. If your computer seems very slow, then high random access memory (RAM) usage is not a good thing,
I also noticed after booting the memory starting at 38% and keep increasing overtime (it's general for startup programs) but if I open one program the memory keep increasing like there is another program running in the background and probably stay in the same value even I closed the currently running program.

You can try forcing the Maintenance, it can the quite a few hours though(best to do before going to sleep) when forced, specially when not done in awhile.
You could also see if your AV is the culprit. In your second screen shot your Chrome looks like it has a lot running too. You could try turning off some add-ons(if you have any) or closing tabs your not reading and just bookmark them.
Here's my task manager view8I have mine set to % instead of values) and what all is running and it's using 4GB RAM. as you see apps such as Mail and Weather are running in the background because I just close the window(red X) and not the app(drag to bottom with mouse till it closes).

Superfetch can be counterproductive, if it preloads files, while you are about to launch something else.
If your computer is slow, it is most likely related to CPU issues, rather then RAM ,which should be freed.
On all of your screens, it is actually Kaspersky taking the most CPU, AV tends to slow down PCs noticeably.
