Services and controller app abnormally high CPU ussage

Hi, this seems like the place to put this query, I just teamviewed my friend reporting a high CPU usage while doing nothing more than skype. I checked his computer, and services.exe is using up 20-60% CPU usage at all times which I have determined to not be normal despite his family claiming the computer is fine and nothing is wrong with it.

I have done a malwarebytes scan and came back with a clean report. Question is, what else could be wrong with the system and what procedures should I take to resolve the high CPU usage?

his recent install(s) was avermedia Recentral and the avermedia LGP drivers

If this is also Windows 8.1, open the Task manager and look down list on process tab and the Details tab to locate which process is doing this possibly first. What types of scan, with which Anti-Virus or Malware scanner, as one is not always sufficient to eliminate a possible infection causing this too. Not saying it is not a software or a plug and play device doing this, not too high 60%, be really concerned if seen closer to100% and doing barely nothing on PC.

Update, missed malwarebytes there. Try Windows Malicious Removal tool MRT.EXE at Run command.

the process doing the CPU ussage is services.exe - terminating it crashes all the other programs or blue screens the computer

the scanner I used was malwarebytes, it reported no infections

when the computer is not running anything, the CPU usage is constantly at 90-100% total
it's still like this when he is only using skype (skype eats up 5-20%), but the CPU usage is 100% (services.exe is using 40-60% CPU alone bringing the CPU usage to 100%)

Stop third party services one by one to see, if it resolves the problem.
Start - Run - msconfig - Hide all MS services - to see which are running

Good idea !!

Also can still be a virus that even Malwarebytes can not detect some forums have powerful tools to fix these.

what tools/forums would these be?

I believe, that it applies to tools like AdwCleaner, ComboFix, Rkill and such.
